I pulled a ring box from my pocket and opened it, showing him the simple gold band inside. “Jacob, will you do me the honor of being my husband?”
Tears ran down his cheeks. “Yes. Oh my God. Yes.”
I swept him up in my arms and kissed him. Daisy neighed, and the foal made the tiniest sound.
“They approve,” Jacob said when I finally pulled back and took a breath.
“They do.”
“I can’t believe I really get to be with you and them every day. I’m so lucky.”
“No, sweetheart, I’m so lucky. You’ve made me whole again.”
We kissed again, then we stood watching our beautiful horses knowing our future was going to be everything we’d wished for.
