“Rek, a little help. Hoist us up.”

“Hoist you up?” my first mate shouted angrily.

“Do it,” I bellowed, climbing upward and in the direction of the women above me. “I’ll stay with Jo; try to work your way up, Ainsley. It’ll make it easier for the men.”

She nodded and started moving up the ladder, not offering the slightest glance back.

“She’s quite a woman,” Jo said quietly.

“Aye. How bad is it?” I inquired, glancing down at her arm.

Jo chuckled. “I’ve had much worse. Captain?”

“Killian Flynn. You’re about to board my airship.”

The ladder began moving upward, and she grunted against me as her arm jostled. Eventually, Rek succeeded in getting us close enough to the edge of the ship where I could help Jo over the railing and heave myself onto the deck.

“Well, that was certainly wild,” I said, adjusting my vest and brushing at the dusty film that now covered me.

All eyes shifted toward me.

What? Did I have something on my face?
