“Who are you? Why did you attack us last night?” he demanded.

The girl chuckled. “Always so many questions with the marks. That’s why it’s better to never be caught.”

Noah sucker punched her right in the gut and got closer to her face.

She gasped for air, coughing up blood as she did.

“You need medical attention. There’s blood on the ground from where your head lay, and judging by the fact that in one hit you’re spewing blood, you were hit far worse before I got to you. If you want to live, you’ll start talking.”

The assassin stared at him with hatred. She started coughing again and her eyes grew harder. She knew he was right. If she was anything like the other fae in this world though, admitting defeat didn’t come easily.

Noah punched again, and this time she took much longer to recover.

Finally, she heaved, vomiting up a pile of blood that sent me crawling backward away from her.

Noah looked on at her, the same grim expression on his face.

“I don’t think you want to know.” The assassin coughed, wiping at her mouth. Noah had let her up enough so that she could at least turn to the side to vomit. But he was gripping her hard, ready for anything.

She turned her head up toward him and smiled. Blood trickled down the side of her lip. “I was hired by your precious duchess, Vanessa. To kill the crown prince as quickly as possible.”
