“I’m sorry,” I whisper, swallowing hard as I step closer to her.

“For what?” she asks, her big blue eyes peering up at me.

“I thought that you were sober enough last night when I asked you to marry me, when we got married. I should have waited and done it when you hadn’t been drinking.”

Emma blushes, looking away from me.

“I’m a bit of a lightweight,” she admits and I give her a grim smile.

She seems a little nervous, a little lost, and my heart sinks.

“I know that we don’t know each other very well. Yet,” I add, meeting her wide eyes, “but I want a chance with you, Emma. There’s something about you that…I just need. I can feel it. We’re meant to be together.”

Her face would be comical if she wasn’t holding my heart and our future in her hands.

I hold my breath, silently praying to the universe that she says she wants me, too.

She makes me sweat, nibbling on her full bottom lip as she debates in her head.

I just need her to give me a chance. If she would just let me in, I’d do everything I could in order to win her over.

To make her love me the way that I love her.

“Okay,” she whispers, looking up at me through her lashes.

I grin, feeling like I just won the Super Bowl. This is bigger, though, and worth so much more.

Emma’s heart is the one thing that I am determined to win.

Emma

Declan hadto take a phone call, so I left him alone in the hotel suite, telling him that I was going to go downstairs to take a shower and change. He had asked what room I was in and told me he would be down in half an hour to help me move my suitcase and belongings up to our room.

I’ll be honest, I had melted a bit when he called it ‘our room’.

He kissed me goodbye and that had only made me burn hotter. That man can kiss.

What’s more surprising is how natural and right all of this feels.

Breakfast had been a little awkward, since I didn’t really know how to act around him and was still embarrassed for fainting on him when he had tried to kiss me.

Then he mentioned buying me a ring and last night suddenly became too real.

Once he told me how he felt, though, things just clicked into place. I helped him clean up the breakfast mess and we had chatted about Destiny Falls and our families. When his phone had started to ring, I grabbed my shoes, but he surprised me by tugging them out of my hand and passing me a box from the gift shop downstairs.

I had almost moaned when I slipped on the flip flops and I was so grateful and surprised that he had thought of me.

I step off of the elevator, humming to myself as I head down the hallway and over to my room. I’m slipping the key into the door when Taylor and Chloe step out into the hallway. Their eyes narrow as soon as they spot me.

“Well, well, well,” Taylor says, her upper lip curling into a snarl.

I don’t understand why she’s upset about me and Declan. I mean, she’s getting married, too, for Pete’s sake!

“Look who it is,” Chloe says as she steps closer to me.

“Hey,” I say weakly, waving slightly at them.
