I must be out of my mind.

But then, Levi moved even closer, his arms shooting out to grab me and drag my body against his. I gasped as I tilted my head back to look up at him in surprise.

Then, his lips were on mine, and I knew that everything was about to change.

CHAPTER4

Levi

She tasted so damn sweet, just the way I’d always imagined.

I didn’t plan on giving into my attraction to Summer when I’d decided to track her down. Kissing her had been a fantasy of mine since we were in high school, but she looked so good with her curves on full display, and that fire in her eyes had my blood racing. It had always been like that with Summer. Her sass and wit drew me to her unlike any other woman ever had.

My intention of coming here to mend fences flew right out the window. All I’d wanted was to recover the meaningful friendship that we’d had before everything had driven us apart.

Kissing her might not be the best way to go about achieving that goal, but as her lips molded to mine, I had no intention of stopping. Fire raced through my veins, and I felt dick start to get hard as my hands landed on her hips, feeling the bare skin that was exposed above the waistband of her pajama bottoms.

I was consumed by my desire for her and surrounded by her scent, a combination of vanilla and something almost floral. I wondered if it was bodywash lingering on her skin. I noticed that her hair was damp, which I assumed meant that she’d showered.

God, I’d love to see her dripping wet.

I licked the seam of her mouth, longing for a real taste of her, but she didn’t part her lips for me. Instead, her body tensed and she brought her palms to my chest, pushing me away from her with surprising strength.

I stumbled back, feeling like I’d been doused with cold water, cooling my passion. My eyes opened and I stared at Summer. Her chest was heaving as she tried to catch her breath and there was a pretty pink flush to her cheeks.

“Just in case you need to be reminded, I hate you,” she spat, stepping back and slamming the door in my face.

I hesitated, not wanting to leave after that kiss. My lips still tingled with sensation, and my erection throbbed in my pants. But I didn’t want to push her too far too fast. Hell, I was lucky that she’d talked to me at all.

She didn’t hate me though. I was sure that shewantedto, but if hatred was what she truly felt, I wouldn’t have seen the hurt and confusion in her eyes after our kiss. She wouldn’t have kissed me back before she came to her senses…

No, Summer Hendrix didn’t hate me, no matter what she said, and that meant that I had hope.

As I walked away from her door and back to the elevator, I was determined to convince her that I wasnother enemy. I made a mistake three years ago, and I could own up to that, but I wouldneverhave knowingly betrayed Summer or her family.

I just had to make her believe that.

I awokethe next morning to the sound of children laughing and running down the hall outside of my room. That kind of thing could have been annoying, especially since it was just ten minutes before my alarm was set to go off, but I woke up in a good mood.

Summer was on my mind, and I was going to find a way to speak to her again as soon as possible. After our kiss, all plans of rekindling our friendship were gone. I wanted more than that from her now.

Hell, I’d always wanted more when it came to Summer. In the back of my mind, I thought we’d eventually end up together. The timing just never seemed right for us, but I figured we’d find our way to each other someday. Then, she disappeared from my life and not only did I lose a good friend, but I was sure that I lost any opportunity to be with the woman I wanted more than any other.

This felt like my second chance. Mylastchance.

I knew that Keith had a full day planned for us, doing things like group yoga and a scavenger hunt, so I wasn’t sure if I’d get the chance to sneak away and see Summer, but I was going to be here until the end of the week. I wasn’t leaving this island without establishing a relationship with her again.

I rolled out of bed and stretched my arms over my head, yawning. My stomach rumbled, and I started thinking about breakfast until my phone rang. Grabbing it off the nightstand, I saw my mom’s face on the screen. I swiped to accept the call.

“Hey, Mom,” I said, pressing the phone to my ear.

“So, how’s the island?” she said, and I winced while pulling the phone away from my ear.

She was always so loud over the phone that people could overhear our conversation on the other side of the room. It drove me crazy.

“Is it beautiful there?”
