“Is that okay?” He scratched the back of his head. “I can sleep on the sofa if you want.”
“I just … I don’t have the experience ...” She reached for her bag in the middle of the bed.
“Experience?”
She unzipped her bag and bit her bottom lip, not looking at him. “I don’t …”
“You’re a virgin?”
Autumn hadn’t been prepared for him to ask. She nodded but pretended to look through her bag.
“That’s okay.” He put his hand on her back. “If you want, I can sleep on the couch.”
She turned toward him. “No, we can sleep in here if you don’t … I need to take it slow. If that’s okay with you.”
“I’m not going to pressure you into doing anything you don’t want.” His words were low. “I care about you.”
Her heart soared, and if he kept saying words like that, things may go faster than she thought. She smiled and turned toward him, slipping her arms around his waist and looking up at him. “I care about you, too. Even if you are all brawn and no brains.”
He laughed then she lifted her face toward his and he pressed his lips against hers. “I’ve been wanting to do that since I picked you up.”
“Me too.” Autumn’s entire world was here right now. “Drew, huh?”
“What?” His hands traveled up her back and he dipped down to be closer to her.
“Your middle name’s Drew.”
“Now that you know my middle name, it’s only fair you tell me yours.”
“I don’t have one.”
“Seriously?” He tilted his head.
“My mom and dad couldn’t agree on a middle name. I’m just Autumn.”
“Just Autumn?”
She shrugged.
“I think your middle name should be Hazel.”
This made her giggle. “Autumn Hazel Waite.” It actually didn’t sound bad.
He kissed her again.
As much as she wanted to stay like this, he didn’t come all this way to spend time with her. “But I really want to see those embarrassing pictures your mom promised.”
He leaned his head back. “Like you didn’t see the ones on the walls.”
This made her giggle and his arms tightened around her. His forehead fell against hers. She couldn’t wait to be in that bed tonight. Alone. In the dark.
