“I know. Sorry about your car.” I actually mean it. Harrington might piss me off now and then, but he’s not a bad guy. “Send me a bill and I’ll take care of it.”

“Oh, I will, but that’s not what I wanted to talk to you about.”

“No?”

He shakes his head. “No, I want to know why Willow would cover for you. Did you say something to her?”

He thinks I threatened her? I’d be insulted if it weren’t beyond the realm of possibility. “No, I didn’t say a word. I have no idea why she took the blame. I guess she just wanted to hurt you.”

He nods, resigned. “That’s what I thought.”

“Are we all good here, Coach?” I need to know, because I can’t continue training with this man if there’s going to be a lingering problem between us.

“Yeah, as long as you don’t pull a stunt like that again, we’re good.”

“Appreciate it, Coach.”

He nods again and turns to leave. Then he looks back at me. “Jace, stay away from Willow. She’s a good girl, with a bright future.”

“Yeah, okay.”

I say the words, but I don’t mean them. The last thing I intend to do is keep my distance from her. In fact, before the week is out, I plan to make her mine.
