Azalea Blooms 8

Lukas

“So,howlonghas that been going on?” Taz asked as I made my descent down the stairs the next morning. Taz was always the first one up. Connell and Isaac always slept in unless we had practice. Sometimes they went to practice then took a nap when we got home.

“How long has what been going on?” I tried to play dumb.

“You and Azalea. Don’t think I didn’t notice you two sneaking off last night. You weren’t exactly quiet when you came in early this morning.”

Fuck, I knew someone had been up.

He was eating a bowl of oatmeal at the kitchen counter, his usual morning ritual. I ignored his question and moved around, grabbing my own shit. The coffee machine gurgled and hissed, leaving an infamous warm and sweet aroma wafting through the air.

I needed a cup like I needed my next breath. I hadn't been able to sleep much due to all of my after-hours experimenting with Azalea. I couldn’t get enough of her.

My legs moved beneath me like I was in a vat of quicksand. Slow as molasses. I poured myself a glass and added cream. Sugar was for the weak hearted.

I dropped into the chair beside him at the island. “Keep your mouth shut, Taz. I don’t need this getting out okay? Zales isn’t ready to tell people and I’m not going to let you fuck up what we have going on. So zip it.”

His eyes widened briefly. “Wait, you really like her. Like, like her.” I scowled at him trying to get him to change the subject. “Well, it's about time you realized it, Lukey boy. You moon over her enough. So… are you two like dating or is this a casual sex thing?”

I wasn’t about to divulge any of the personal things I’d talked about or done with Zales. Those were for me and me only. I was the only one, other than Isaac, who knew she was a virgin only a few weeks ago. I shrugged at him, hoping he caught my drift of not wanting to talk anymore.

“For whatever it’s worth. I think you two are great together and I hope it works out. I won’t spill your secrets. They aren’t mine to tell.”

I picked up a piece of toast and threw it at him, but he batted it away before it could make contact.

It was hard to believe that another hockey season was upon us. This coming weekend was Azalea’s first golf tournament, and I already had my schedule planned out. I never missed one, unless we had a game the same weekend.

“Yo, you going to watch the girls play this weekend?” he mumbled between bites of food.

“Yep.” I didn’t want to give him a reason to ask to tag along even though I knew one hundred percent that's what he was going to do.

“Mind if I ride along? Isaac has some project to work on with his biology partner, and I’m sure Connell has plans already, plus they’re boring.” He rolled his eyes.

“Fine, you can ride along. But don’t piss off the girls.”

Class ran over and I was headed to The Ugly Duckling. Azalea and all our friends were already at the bar. For as much as her friends and mine bickered, you’d think they were a bunch of married couples. A chuckle slipped out as I shook my head just thinking about the last time Cami told Taz off. Those two… fire and ice.

The bar was slammed by the time I got there. People were inside crowded around as well as hanging out on the patio. As I walked through the crowd, they parted like The Great Sea. Guys from the team stopped me to chat for a few minutes, then I was hit by bunnies and a few classmates.

It took my breath away when I finally saw Zales across the bar. Her dark hair was thrown into a haphazard bun, half of it falling out. Gold earrings dangled from her perfectly proportionate ears. Blue jeans hugged those incredibly sexy curves, and the sweater on top was too big to properly enjoy what I knew was beneath it.

It was wrong of me to have a constant hard on these days. All I had to do was think about her or see her and it was all hands on deck.

“Hey, Boner, what are you dressing up as this year?” It sounded muffled, like I was in a bucket. “Boner, man.”

I couldn’t take my eyes off her. She’d gone to the bar to grab drinks. Turning, she’d mouthed “You want anything?” to which I responded silently “Only you.” It was true.

I winked at her and then turned toward the booth our friends were currently occupying. Taz and Cami were, you guessed it, bickering like an old married couple. Isaac sat to the left of Cami watching the entire scene play out.

“Yeah, um… not entirely sure. I think Zales figured out our costumes for us this year for the Halloween party. So I’m wearing whatever she picked.”

“Dude, you’re so pussy whipped.”

I chuckled and a grin widened my lips. “Nah, you just don’t understand how fucking awesome having a girl best friend is.”

He curled an eyebrow as if to say yeah right. “Yet, you’re not boning her. I don’t get it man. Why hang out with a chick that doesn’t put out?” I laughed internally because fuck it, the joke was on him. A small part of me felt bad for not being truthful to our friends, but a larger part wanted to keep it how it was. We had our own thing, our own secret, and I wanted to live in that bubble forever.
