She wasn’t the only one to try a little of everything on the menu and, from what I saw, the reception to all of them was, as Chase anticipated, amazing. Now, I just needed to keep it going. I was excited at the prospect.

“You know, you didn’t have to eat all of them.” I dropped her skates on the couch.

“Of course I did, it’s called being a supportive girlfriend. Something I take very seriously, I’ll have you know.”

She was so fucking perfect, I almost didn’t have words. “None of it would have happened without you.” And it wouldn’t be the same without her with me.

She smiled and hooked her arms around my neck. “I just ate pie.”

“You did a hell of a lot more than that.”

One shoulder lifted in a half shrug. “Well, I would do just about anything for you…”

“Just about anything, huh?” I asked, pulling her into my chest.

“Yup. Any requests?” Her smile was sweet as she pressed herself closer.

“Don’t tempt me.” I dropped my head to the crook of her neck, letting my lips wander. She hummed.

“I might have one.” Her fingers threaded into my hair.

“Mmm, what’s that?”

“Marry me.”

My head popped up and I watched her, waiting for a punchline that never came. “You’re serious?”

“I am.”

“You want to get married?”

“To you, specifically, yes.” She grinned.

“But—but you don’t—our parents, they—”

“It’s true that our parents all made a royal mess of pretty much every relationship they’ve ever been in. But what I’ve realized, what it took me way too long to realize, is that we’re not them. Nor are their mistakes ours. And, if there is anyone who makes me want to believe in marriage, believe in forever, Mack, it’s you. So what do you think? You wanna be my husband?”

No question had ever been easier to answer. “You bet I fucking do.”
