Arsenio clears his throat. “All right, brothers. We need to get shit finalized. Do you need anything from me, Enzo?”

I press my lips into a line. A dozen answers swirl through my head. What I really want is for someone else to do this shit. I don’t regret my actions, but these consequences are worse than I expected.

“I should be good. The staff knows to relocate his body to the family plot for the ceremony. I’ve requested only our pack and the leaders of his allies to come. No one else really cares, anyway.” Which is true. When I was going over the list of people to invite, I could easily cut out half of them. We don’t need entire packs here. They’ll come back for our union to Kinsey. That will be enough.

“You’ve been planning this all by yourself, Enzo?” Kinsey’s soft voice catches my attention. “How are you holding up? I feel bad that I haven’t asked. I’ve been too concerned with myself.”

A smile stretches across my lips, and I lift and drop my shoulders. “That’s how it should be. I’m good. I promise. I just have to check on the catering real quick, and then everything’s good to go. We don’t even have to attend. Just shaking a couple hands will be good enough.”

Arsenio sets her on her feet, and I can tell with one look that he knows Kinsey’s going to ask to help me. “Why don’t you go with him and make sure the dessert is to your liking, sugar? I need to go over everything with Wilder and Desmond about Donahue.”

I’m going to owe him one. Fuck yeah, to having an amazing brother.

Reaching out, I offer my fist to him, bumping my knuckles to his. “That sounds like an excellent idea. I saw a couple pieces of cake with your name on it. Help sweeten you up after some of the bullshit.”

Kinsey wiggles her fingers at me, finally begging me to lift her up into my arms. I’d carry her everywhere if I could. I love when she’s extra affectionate, wanting to bury her face in the crook of my neck to tease my skin with her lips and tongue and teeth.

“Oh, and little brother? Remember what we discussed? Now, it’s your turn. I’ll give you extra time.” Arsenio motions to his finger, and I cock my head, realizing that he went through with the formal proposal. It was something that we were each going to do spontaneously because that’s the best way to show Kinsey just how much we love her.

I feel in my pocket, touching the ring I picked out that fits with Arsenio, Wilder, and Desmond’s. “I owe you one, Arsenio.”

He shakes his head. “Nah. You handled so much already. I’ll get going.” He kisses Kinsey on the cheek. “Have a good time, sugar. Try not to fill up on cake. I want to share some with you later.”

Kinsey smiles and motions for Desmond and Wilder to close the space. The four of us hug her between us, smothering her with our love and affection. She groans, her scent growing as the drugs battle to keep her in control.

If Jude didn’t knock on the doorframe, drawing our attention, I’m pretty fucking certain we’d all take turns banging our girl until she orgasms at least twice as many times as us.

“Sorry to interrupt you guys, but you have an early visitor. It’s not for the funeral. He says he’s from out of the region.”

“It’s probably one of the packs from Platinum Shores. I’m not sure that the Pack Regimes put out a notice yet. I think they’re waiting until after the funeral.” Wilder cracks his knuckles, bouncing on his feet.

“Good luck with that. We’ll see you later, brothers.” I carry Kinsey away from them and past Jude, heading toward the grand staircase leading down to the kitchen.

I catch sight of a familiar man in the grand foyer, staring at the elevator, waiting expectantly for Jude to bring one of us to him. From my position, he won’t be able to see me. I rack my brain, trying to think of how I know him. I’ve seen him before, but I don’t think I’ve ever spoken with him.

My body cools when I realize who he is.

It’s Kinsey’s uncle. Holy fucking shit. I’m going to kill the bastard. Spinning on my feet, I rush back toward the library, listening to my brothers’ voices. I can’t let Kinsey know. If she realizes her uncle is here, she’s going to lose her shit.

“Sorry, baby. I forgot I have to do something first.” I stop in the doorway to the library and smack my hand on the frame. “Hey, brothers. I forgot about some paperwork. I need you to help me fill it out real quick before I take Kinsey.” Turning to Desmond, I say, “Can you take her? I’ll text you.”

Everyone knows something’s wrong without me having to say it, and Desmond quickly takes Kinsey from my arms, kissing her sensually, so she doesn’t ask what’s going on.

I don’t give her a chance either.

Grabbing onto Wilder’s arm, I drag him with me, getting Arsenio to follow. It takes everything in me not to pull my gun from his holster and shoot the man without him even knowing. He deserves death. He deserves every ounce of pain I can dish.

Another man stepping up beside him stops me from doing so. He’s the head of Saint Vista’s Pack Regimes.

Fuck me.

“That’s Kinsey’s uncle. He must’ve gotten word of her whereabouts after your coronation.” I roll my shoulders, my nerves getting the best of me.

Arsenio and Wilder both swear.

“We have to do something. We must act now,” I demand, steeling myself for the possibility of starting another war.

“We just need to get him out of here before Kinsey finds out.” Arsenio straightens his jacket.
