“This is fucked up. I’m so glad that you guys got them, though. They’re all young and around Holly’s age. For at least two of them, it’ll be their first heat as well. I think we should offer them suppressant pills if they want them. And if they don’t, we should give them a safe space where they don’t have to worry. Maybe even introduce them to people you trust. I know that betas can’t knot, but you have proved that they can help out just as much. Who knows, maybe they’ll find a connection that was never given to them.” Kinsey’s voice softens as she thinks over her words. “Wouldn’t that be something? If we could have a place for unwanted omegas? Or a place for omegas trying to find sanctuary? I would’ve given anything to have somewhere to go that wasn’t the Vixen Lounge. Somewhere that I could just live and let live and also be courted and familiarized with anyone I was interested in, whether it’s an alpha or a beta. Even another omega. That’s the kind of place we need.”

I ease away from her, finally meeting her sparkling green eyes. I never thought of it like that. When I think of omega clubs, I think about those too scared to do anything except submit to the horny alphas who don’t want the commitment of taking care of an omega and those who just want to get their dicks rubbed. But this imaginary place, and omega sanctuary, sounds perfect. And now I want to make it happen. I want to do this for Kinsey, so she can feel better about the state of the world, knowing that there are good alphas out there. There are good packs that deserve these precious beings even if they don’t have the power to barter for such things.

“We could have two establishments. One where alphas can apply and be vetted out before they even get a chance to meet any omegas. Maybe the omegas can look over their applications and histories and decide whether or not they even want to meet them in the first place.” Kinsey’s features soften as she loses herself in my gaze, daydreaming about what she would consider the perfect place for people like her. For omegas that found themselves in terrible circumstances they just wanted to leave. To live and to get a choice.

“That sounds incredible. We can make it happen. I know we could. We could even start now. If these omegas have nowhere to go, we can create a place for them. They’ll have the option to take suppressants or not. If they want birth control, we’ll figure out how to provide it. If they just want to find a pack to create a life with, we’ll offer that too. Through a matching club that’ll replace any sort of omega sex club. And it won’t be influenced by money. It’ll be influenced by standup alphas who understand what omegas need instead of thinking of only themselves.” I tuck her hair behind her ear. “How does that sound? We can make it work. We can even use Platinum Shores if we want.” I try not to frown, because to use the territory, I need to ensure I get it back. I don’t say as much, though. I don’t want to ruin this moment. Because I know I will fight for it. Wilder unintentionally had given me the best gift. A gift that will benefit all of Saint Vista and even the rest of the regions in California and beyond.

Kinsey bounces on her feet. “I can’t wait. I have so many ideas.”

“Then let’s go inside and get everything situated. This will be a new beginning for many, and you’ll be the one to lead the way.” I laced my fingers with her.

“Who needs to be alpha anyway? We can lead just as well.” She smiles at me, reminding me of the absolute truth. Because she’s right. I don’t need to be an alpha.

I just need to be me.

Chapter sixteen

Kinsey

The Knotty Princes Club

Thescentoffear, grief, and pain wafts through the air. I grab the doorframe, wobbling on my feet. When Enzo warned me that Wilder and his brothers found a nest of omegas, this wasn’t what I had imagined. I expected them to be like the Gorgeous Girls of the Vixen Lounge or even the omegas from the Knotty Girls Club. But these omegas look as if they’ve suffered a far worse fate.

My heart breaks for them, their scents triggering my empathy. It reminds me of how I looked after my uncle had chained me down during my first heat. How bruised and bloody my wrists and ankles were. How tangled my hair was from my sweat and tears.

They need some serious care, and I’m afraid I don’t know how to offer it to them.

“Kinsey, dear. Let me through.” Melina slides past me, carrying a tray of food. “Why don’t you help grab the cart from the hallway? Desmond will be here shortly to help us.”

I do as Melina asks, prying my hand from the doorframe to step back into the hall. I spot the rolling cart with pitchers of water and stacked glasses. Beneath those, on the second shelf, lines a stack of clean towels and fresh linens. Garments finish the collection of goods, filling the bottom shelf.

I try my best not to touch anything, knowing that my alphas’ scents might linger on me. They grow more possessive, and the second Wilder and Arsenio got home, they smothered me between their muscular bodies, ensuring that their pheromones push away the fear my uncle caused.

I shiver at the thought.

I roll the cart into the suite, closing the door behind me to give the omegas the privacy they need to feel safe in this strange new environment. Melina sets the tray at a table and arranges the plates filled with meats and cheeses, fruit and veggies, nuts and different dips for them to enjoy. She’s making it easier on them by not assuming they’ll eat whatever is served and giving them a chance to choose.

“Eat whatever you want and leave what you don’t. If you want more, all you have to do is say so. There is no limit to providing what you need.” Melina motions to the plates and serving spoons. “And when you’re ready, I’ll bring in some dessert. How does that sound?”

Only three react, nodding their heads, their eyes trained on the platters before them.

I ache at the sight of how uncertain and scared they are. I was lucky enough to be able to escape the sort of life they found themselves in before it even happened to me, really. My experience is nothing compared to this, but it does help me see a bit more clearly. They won’t open up until they’re ready, and I can’t force them. I won’t force them to.

“Melina, I’ll handle this from here for now. I know Holly will be here soon. Why don’t you check on my alphas and ensure everything is okay?” I squeeze Melina’s shoulders until she steps closer and kisses each of my cheeks. “You’re going to be a marvelous queen, Kinsey. I’m so happy you’re a part of our pack and family.”

Warmth blooms through my chest, and I stand and watch her exit the suite, waiting only a minute to turn to the omegas.

“Would you like me to get you all plates? I’m sure you’re exhausted.” I grab the first plate and start dishing a little bit of everything onto it.

The pale blonde stands up from her spot and takes a plate from me, but she hands it to a petite black-haired omega who still hasn’t turned her head away from the floor.

“I’ll help you,” the blonde says, standing a couple of inches taller than me. “My name is Ashley, by the way. I’m from the Koederitz Pack within the Gutter District. My pack fell on hard times, and this was the only way for them to keep going.”

I try not to react to her words. Situations like that aren’t uncommon. Because omegas are used to barter wealth and power. If a pack that has neither of those things births an omega in their territory, they’ll absolutely get whatever they can for it. And Ashley just happened to be put into the situation out of desperation and cruelty. Because her pack took the easy way out instead of trying to find a worthy alpha who would pay for her. It would’ve been more challenging. Many would think breeding with her bloodline would result in a weaker pack.

“I’m so sorry you found yourself in that position.” I offer her another plate to pass out. “But it’s so nice to meet you, Ashley.” I make sure to say her name, showing her that I’m listening. I don’t want her to think that I’m just doing things to be nice because I was told to. “What about the rest of you? Do any of you want to tell me your names? It’s okay if you don’t. I just thought we could get to know each other better. I know it helps me when I’m scared to be able to find familiarity, and I want to create that for you.”

The male omega clears his throat. “I’m Devin.”
