Without questioning my motives, Tyler captures my lips in a kiss that has my toes curling and my chest tightening. He wraps his strong arms around my waist and pulls me against his rock-solid frame.

Soft against hard.

I lift up on my toes and circle his neck, using him for what I need – a distraction.

He cares about me. Plain and simple. And that has me needing this kiss like my next breath.

His fingers skirt up my sides and he cradles my face. Gently and fiercely, he takes as much from me as I do from him.

Kissing Tyler makes me feel more alive than I ever have. He sparks awake something in me that has long laid dormant, and when this ends, the next man is going to have a hard time competing with how Tyler kisses me.

It could be minutes or hours, but we stay here like this – kissing, feeling, exploring, not ever getting enough.

But too soon, the timer for the pizzas goes off, and we both pull away, laughing.

He rests his forehead against mine. “I think timers are our thing.” He gives me one last quick kiss before taking the pizzas out of the oven.

“I kind of like it,” I tell him, smiling. “It makes me feel like we’re doing something wrong, and if we don’t finish in time, we’ll get caught. And then whoops, we have to start all over again later.”

His booming laugh echoes throughout the kitchen. “What? You’re ridiculous.”

“Maybe.” I laugh, taking a sip of my wine. “I don’t know why I even just told you that. I think it’s the wine.”

“You can tell me anything, sugar. I like knowing what you’re thinking.”

“Well, what I’m thinking now, is that I can’t wait to eat. It smells amazing.”

“Good. I have a reputation to uphold.”

Handing me a plate with a slice of each, I pick up the pepperoni one and blow on it before taking a bite.

“Ohmygod,” I say in a rush.

He smiles proudly. “Good?”

“Amazing,” I say around another bite.

“I have a secret blend of spices I add to the sauce before the cheese.”

“Genius. You’re a pizza genius.”

I didn’t realize how hungry I was, and I end up eating most of the pizza, as well as polishing off the whole bottle of wine. I have no shame about either. I’m finally feeling like what happened earlier tonight is just a thing of the past.

Tyler hasn’t stopped making me laugh with stories about his brothers and the most embarrassing calls he’s had to go to on while on the job.

I never laugh this much. It feels good. It’s liberating.

“Alright.” I yawn. “I think I should go to bed now. I’m exhausted. You said the guest room is done?”

“Yeah.” He clears his throat. “I finished it up yesterday on my day off. It’s pretty much bare of anything but the bed and empty dressers, but–”

“No, that’s fine,” I assure him, placing my hand on his arm. “Thank you for looking after me. I don’t think I needed it.” I smile. “But it’s appreciated nonetheless.”

“My pleasure, sugar,” he says low and sexy, his voice sending a wave of need through me. “And if you get lonely, or need me for anything, I’ll be right across the hall. You can just climb right in my bed. I won’t mind.” He winks. “In fact, I insist you do.”

“I’ll remember that, thanks.” I laugh.

Tyler grabs my bag, and we head upstairs together. Guiding me into the guest room, he places my bag on the bed and watches me look around.
