“No. I didn’t think leaving you behind would be an option. It’s only three nights. Actually, I could fly back on Thursday night. Even better,” he says, running his fingers over the lapels of his jacket and brushing his hair back. “I’ll take you to the apartment, and someone will bring you the car later. What say you?”
“It’s, um… It sounds great.”
The little old me jumps up and down inside my head.
Staying at his place?
Having all the relaxing baths I wanted and couldn’t have and watching the gorgeous sunsets from that magnificent terrace?
Yes, please.
“Are you sure?” he asks, smiling.
“Positively sure.”
“Let’s go then.”
I spin around to grab my suitcase.
“Leave it. Someone will pick it up.”
“All right.”
We exit the hotel a few minutes later. He’s on the phone, making arrangements.
The valet rushes to bring him his red sports car. Later, I learn it’s the car he wants me to drive while vacationing in Miami.
I don’t have the chance to say goodbye to Alejandro and Francisco before being transferred to Kai’s apartment.
He leaves a kiss on my lips, promises to call me, drops the car key on the kitchen counter after giving me a brief tour of his place, and walks out a second later.
A limousine picks him up before taking him straight to the airport.
Only when his ride vanishes around the corner, do I lift my gaze and look into the distance.
Hands clutched on the handrail on the terrace, I think about what just happened.
Damn…. That’s a nice turn of events.

Kai’s Long Islandhome
The doorbell rings.
I check the security feed on my phone before I tuck my cell into my pocket and leave the room. I take the stairs down, walk across the living room, and open the door.
Grayson has his eyes rooted to the house across the street when I fill the entryway.
He wears a winter jacket with a hood, wool pants, and boots and holds a flashlight in his hand.
His hair is gray, and his cheeks are red from the cold.
“Are you ready?” he asks.
