“He’ll be here soon.”

We both look at the water and take it all in, sipping cold refreshing drinks, when the sound of a car engine drifts toward us.

Before long, a car comes to a halt, a door opens and closes, and footsteps trail the driveway.

Francisco’s eyes find mine the second he walks onto the terrace.

“Hey,” he murmurs, tossing the car key on the table.

He pulls a chair out and takes a seat.

“What’s going on?”

His eyes move to Alejandro and then back to me, a ray of sunlight glinting in his eyes.

“We plan to spend the day here… And we thought you might want to join us,” I say.

His stern expression sweetens, a smile creasing his lips. He leans back in his seat.

“What happened?” he asks, looking at me.

Alejandro glances at him.

“Raven and I talked about what happened last night. She knows what we know,” Alejandro says before I continue.

“I want to spend some time with both of you,” I say directly, and despite the bright light and the shadow of the palmettos across his cheeks, I spot a hint of blush on his face.

He narrows his eyes at me, smiling.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes. Yes, I am… And we don’t need to go back tomorrow morning unless there’s some urgent business you need to attend to.”

“My business can wait.”

Alejandro and I look at him while he picks up grapes from a platter and munches on them.

“It’s mostly the people from my building regarding that stupid break-in. I’ll talk to them on Tuesday or Wednesday. Or whenever.”

He smiles before staring at the ocean.

“I wish I knew a little earlier. We could’ve sailed today. Only the three of us.”

“We can still do it,” Alejandro says, grabbing his phone and scrolling through the numbers.

“I’m not so sure I want to spend more time on a boat so soon. Besides, I’m not dressed for it,” I argue.

“It’s not going to be a repeat of last night,” Alejandro says. “I promise you that. And don’t worry about the clothes. There’s a beach shop nearby. We can get everything we need.”

“Okay,” I murmur reluctantly.

“You’re going to like it, baby…” he says, winking at me, his hand resting on mine. “We swim, sunbathe, and come back. Dinner will be ready for us. It will be fun.”

The optimism in his voice registers with me, and the mood improves around the table. This is a big break from everything, giving me good vibes.

He talks to people on the phone and makes arrangements for a yacht that can be run without a crew before we leave the house.

We drive separately. I ride with Alejandro in his ride, and Francisco drives his car.
