He gives me a swift once over as if considering having me twice.

Motherfucker.

We had a good time, and his money is responsible for my impromptu transformation, but so many other things have happened since that night.

He makes a small gesture, signaling to the people he is done with them.

How subtle of him.

“Raven,” he murmurs, not looking at me, checking something on his phone.

I stop in front of him.

“Roman.”

He drags his eyes up and tucks his phone into his pocket.

“You’re still here,” he murmurs, grinning.

“And so are you.”

Amusement glints in his eyes.

“I’m here with business. You?”

The conversation is going great.

“Same,” I murmur.

His eyes laugh.

“Kai thought you left,” the devil throws at me.

The blood drains from my body.

Kai??

Why is he talking about Kai?

And when did he talk to Kai?

“Uh-huh,” I mumble.

He looks at my lips and studies my expression.

He’s tossed his name into the conversation for a reason, methinks, now that he gauges my reaction.

The room starts spinning with me as the bit of information swirls around in my head.

Kai thought I had left?

As in… ‘I have no idea where she is, and I think she might’ve left?

He didn’t know? He didn’t care? What made him think I had left? Wasn’t I supposed to fly back with him?

I don’t get it.

He thought I’d fly back to New York by myself? Or with Francisco and Alejandro?
