I pull upright and eat chocolate cake before popping a strawberry into my mouth. My palate tingles, and I breathe a quiet moan when someone raps on the door.

I crane my neck and look in that direction.

They do it again.

Ugh.

Now I have to get out. I push to my feet, wrap a towel around my chest and put my slippers on.

“Who is it?” I ask when peering through the peephole.

I can’t see a damn thing.

“It’s me,” he says, and my heart almost falls out of my chest.

I open the door and stick my head out.

Holding a box, Kai looks at me.

His eyes are clear and smiling, his clean-shaven face setting off his amazing features. He wears jeans, a t-shirt, and a shirt on top of it, reminding me of that day when he had spent his time car racing.

“Were you waiting for me or someone else?” he jokes, giving me a swift once over before moving past me and walking into my hotel room.

I let the door fall closed, looking at him, washed with disbelief. He sets the box down and turns to me.

I must look funny, not at all sexy with my hair in disarray, my towel a bit crooked, and possibly a crumb of cake on my face.

I look at him, unable to crack a smile.

He seems like a different man than the one I’ve seen these past few days.

“Is everything okay?” I ask, puzzled.

My eyes fall to the box.

“What’s in there?” I murmur.

“I thought maybe you’d like to spend some time with me,” he says so confidently I instinctively run my fingers over my lips and straighten my back.

Spend some time with him? Doing what exactly?

What made him believe I’d want to spend some time with him? Other than going to his apartment?

I move closer to him, still very wary of this. You never know with him.

“What’s in that box?” I ask again.

“Clothes for you.”

“As in an evening gown?”

He seems amused.

“No. We’ll go car racing.”

“We?”

“Yes. You and me.”
