“Tell you what?”

My cheeks are warm with a blush. I knew this moment would come.

I knew I wouldn’t be able to hide it for much longer.

Still, telling her how I’ve made my money and how much earnings we’re talking about is not something I want to disclose.

But I need to say something, so I do.

“Are you asking me about the money?” I ask.

“Yes. The money. And also the way you look, dress, and live. Come on, now… Everything is different about you.”

I push a slice of tomato into my mouth.

“You’re right. I make more money than someone with a regular job.”

“No kidding. Thanks for clarifying that.”

She rolls her eyes.

“Okay, okay…” I say, chewing and uncapping my bottle.

I drink water before speaking again.

“It’s the money that I make with my job…”

I swallow.

She flicks her eyebrows up to encourage me to continue.

“And?”

“And it’s also a game.”

“A game? What game?”

I smile mysteriously.

“A game,” I say, looking away, the crowd becoming noisier as more people pour in.

We should probably have this conversation somewhere else.

And I should’ve thought about what I wanted to tell her.

“Are you going to tell me? Or just speak in riddles and tease me?”

I cut my eyes at her.

“There’s not much to say. The first time I met him…”

“Him?”

Her eyes don’t leave mine.

“My boss… In the beginning, when I met him, we made a bet. He said…”

I pause and look down, grinning again.
