“Ah hah!” With a musical little laugh, Destiny patted him on the chest. “I knew it, you scoundrel. Pisces andScorpio, Sam. You have a deep emotional and physical connection. Am I right?”

He narrowed his eyes. “Maybe.”

“Mmm hmm.” She stroked his chest as if she were petting a dog, though her hand lingered on his abs. “You’re mistrustful like a true Scorpio, aren’t you? I would love to analyze you in more depth. Come over and see me at Moonbeams sometime. But for Lord’s sake, stop scowling. A man like you should have a lot to look forward to in life. Radiate good energy, and you never know what could happen.”

With another slow pat, she sauntered off toward Mariposa Street.

Sam started in the opposite direction. He’d probably always view the world with some level of mistrust, but to his core, he’d never trust anyone the way he trusted Brooke. He wouldn’t have written that letter if he didn’t.

And while he hoped she’d take his letter as he’d intended it—as proof of his love and trust—he didn’t want her to feel obligated to reciprocate. She was off to a well-deserved opportunity clear across the country, and he wasn’t about to screw it up for her by asking her to stay.

Unless…

He stopped. Turning, he headed toward Poppy Lane andThe Bliss Cove Gazetteoffices. Halfway there, he saw Charlie Castle getting out of an old Buick parked at the curb. Sam hurried over to him.

The older man frowned. “What the hell happened to you, boy?”

Sam’s heart started beating too fast. “Charlie, I need your help.”
