He still appeared somewhat confused, as if trying to make the connection between romance and iced tea.

“Uh, I just thought you might be thirsty,” he finally said.

“I was. Thanks.”

He walked to his desk and leafed through a stack of wrinkled, scribbled papers. “So you’re here to check up on me? You’ll be glad to know I got a lot of work done last night.”

“Excellent.” Brooke shrugged out of her hoodie and tossed it onto the sofa. “I also wanted to tell you I came up with a fantastic story idea. I want to write a series about Bliss Cove’s long-time couples…real-life love stories, like Mary and Dan. I’m calling itLifelong Fling, based on the Over the Rhine song.”

“I’m going to ask my grandfather for the first interview. He’ll grouse about it, but he knows deep down that his and Grandma Ruth’s story is special and unique. And speaking of stories, how’s the progress with your revisions?”

“I’m going forward rather than backward, which is always a good thing.” He smiled ruefully. “What’s on the class syllabus?”

“We need to review your work, but first things first.” Brooke walked to the TV and picked up the remote control. “We’re going to the movies.”
