“Clearly, I do.” Bee adjusted her glasses, somewhat annoyed by the fact she was explaining because she didn’t want him to think she was old-fashioned andcrusty. “Especially since you’re on her side.”

He raised his eyebrows. “Who said I was on her side?”

“You’re both nonbelievers, which means you, too, do not understand the critical importance on a paranormal plane of saving this house.”

He held up his hands in a gesture of peace. “Look, I’m here for the show. I get why people want to save historic buildings on whatever plane, but don’t bring me into your battle. I just need to know where the crew can set up the surveillance cameras and get their pizza delivered.”

Bee experienced a twist of guilt, which only added to her frustration. “As I said, they can eat in the conference room. I recommend Nico’s on Mariposa Street for excellent pizza and prompt delivery. As for the cameras, I gave the producer a library blueprint. You can install them anywhere that won’t damage the crown molding.”

“Great. Thanks for the help.” He gave her a salute and headed back to the crew.

Bee tried not to watch him walk away, but her eyes drifted involuntarily to the length of his muscular legs in those worn jeans, the broad triangle of his back narrowing to lean hips, and what appeared to be an incredibly firm rear end…

Lord in heaven. She hadn’t had a date in months. Clearly, it was time to get on that horse again because she would not waste one more minute salivating over…er,admiringAdam Powers.

She felt Puffalump watching her, and she gave the cat a mild glare. “Don’t judge me. I’m still a red-blooded woman.”

He yawned and continued pacing. Given his penchant for marching like a Buckingham Palace guard, it was a wonder he hadn’t yet worn a path in the counter.

Taking out her cell phone, Bee waited for the weak signal to kick in and pulled up the number for Destiny Storm, local fortune-teller and owner of the Moonbeams shop on Mariposa Street.

Bee had let Destiny and her other friends set her up a few times in the past, but for several months now, her battle with Marilyn and the town council had taken over any spare time she’d usually have reserved for socializing.

Not that she suddenly had more time now, but a distraction from Adam Powers was definitely in order.

She texted Destiny:Taking you up on your matchmaking offer. I need a date!

Destiny’s reply came seconds later:Glory be! I’m on it.

Bee slipped her phone back into her bag and turned to the computer.

Against her better judgment, she pulled up the Explorer Channel website and re-read the announcement aboutHex or Hoax?filming on location in the seaside town of Bliss Cove, California. A glossy publicity photo of Clyde Constantine accompanied the article.

She scrolled down to the listing of the production crew and clicked on the nameAdam Powers.

Another lengthy dossier popped up with a black-and-white headshot of an unsmiling Adam. He was wearing the black-framed glasses he wore on camera, and he looked both serious and handsome, like a science-chic model.

Bee scanned his biography, her mouth falling open a little. Although he might be a gorgeous slice of untidy male perfection, Adam Powers was no standard-issue pretty boy.

Based on the entry, he’d grown up in Washington, DC, and had an impressively hard-core science background—PhD in Physics, Master’s degrees in Mathematics and Ontology, professor positions at Duke and MIT, a director position at a physics research institute, and a bunch of other “ships”—fellowships, scholarships, and internships.

More so, Adam’s father was the head materials scientist at the Department of Defense, and his mother was the lead neurosurgeon at George Washington Hospital.

She sat back, still staring at the screen. Adam came from impressive, illustrious stock and had once been a high-level academic scientist. No wonder the Explorer Channel had hired him as an expert consultant.

The question was…why had he left his prestigious career and taken a job on a ghost-hunter show?
