Page 76 of It'll Always Be Her

“You’re right,” she said. “It is nuts, but yes. I’ll be your date.”

Relief flowed through him, easing any lingering fears and misgivings. He grabbed her up and planted a hard kiss on her mouth. “I can’t guarantee the party itself will be pleasant, but I do know that the food will be good.”

“Doesn’t seem like the company will be so bad either.” She nudged him in the chest, her eyes twinkling. “I’ll ask Aria to take care of Edgar and Puff. She won’t tell anyone I’m going to Washington, DC, with you.”

She was going to DC with him. He almost couldn’t believe his luck. He kissed her again, his blood warming at the press of her soft mouth. She slid her fingers into his hair. He flattened his hand on the small of her back and pulled her closer, wishing they were—

An icy spray of saltwater suddenly drenched them both.

“Oh!” Bee pulled away, her eyes widening.

What the—?

Adam actually glared at the ocean, where a wave that had crashed against the rocks was now receding. Cold water dripped from his hair. He turned to Bee, reaching out to wipe the water from her face. “You okay?”

“Fine.” She blinked, running a hand over her hair. “But that was…”

Her voice trailed off. He didn’t bother pointing out that they were standing right where the waves broke against the rocky shoreline. Thousands of people had probably gotten caught in the ocean’s spray over the years.

But how many of them had been kissing at the time? How many of them had beeninterruptedby the ocean?

“We…um, we should probably get over to the library,” Bee suggested.

He nodded, swiping his arm over his forehead. They started walking back to the car. Although the interruption hadn’t dispelled the warmth of their kiss—not even a strange coincidence could do that— and although he hadn’t been looking forward to Washington, DC, now he couldn’t wait to get on the plane.

With her. They both had to get away from Bliss Cove, to be alone together without the portent of ghosts or other weird happenings.

But the scientist in him couldn’t ignore the evidence. He’d hypothesized that the interruptions only took place within the house’s footprint.

And though their kiss in the parking lot hadn’t been interrupted, the boardwalk was a good two miles from the Gardenia House.

SoifAdam believed in paranormal activity, andifthe ghost of John Marcus was out to kill his game, andifhe was being thwarted from making any progress with Bee in the house itself—

Then what—or who—was stopping him now?
