Reese shook Dominic’s hand.“I’m sure I’ve got a lot of issues.”
“With a contract.”Dominic chuckled.“The rest are between you and God.”
Reese looked between him and Judith, then at us.“I appreciate the introduction, but I can’t afford a shitty lawyer, let alonethe best.”
“This is a favor for Judith,” Dominic says.“I assume she’ll own your soul after, but I hear she’s kind about that.”
“I’m not buying any more souls.The ones I have are trouble enough.”Judith glanced sideways at Brandon.
Or I imagined it.
“But I am hoping we can get you and the band in for some contract work, once you’re free and clear,” Judith said.
Reese worked her jaw.“So, this is for real?”
Dominic nodded.“I was going to give you a call later in the week, but we heard you were here and I figured it was better to meet in person.”
They discussed some basics about what Reese was dealing with, and agreed she’d send him a copy of her contract.I saw a tension drain away that was typically a normal part of being around Reese.
As he went to leave, I stopped him.“If her manager told her he’d let her out of the contract for sleeping with him, does that help her case at all?”
Dominic’s good mood vanished behind anger.“I wish it did, but unlikely.What a scumbag.”
“That’s not fair to scum.”Reese’s laugh was tight.
“I need to run,” Dominic said.“Email me everything, tell this asshole to contact me directly for anything going forward, and I’ll be in touch in the next day or two.”
Reese was bouncing when Dominic and Judith left.“I actually have hope.For the first time in ages.Wow.”
“You deserve it.”I gave her a long kiss.Her moan against my lips was delicious.
Brandon wrapped an arm around her waist, tugged her away, and crushed his mouth to hers.The sight was sexy as fuck to watch, but startling.Were we at that point?Were they?Apparently so.More hope sparked in my chest.
Reese hung around the rest of the day, an unofficial Aces team member, and helped us break everything down when the show was over.
As we were wrapping up, Judith grabbed my attention.“Real quick, and I’ll let you get home.I want to extend your contract.Have you in the office a few days a week, and on call when you’re okay with it and when Luna can’t be.”
“I… Yeah, okay.”I hadn’t expected to be doing Aces work much longer.Luna and I had put the finishing touches on what I was contracted to do, and everything else was clean-up.
“See.Easy peasy,” Judith said.“I’ll get you a more official notice tomorrow, but I wanted to check with you tonight.”
I thanked her again, and she was on her way.
“We have to celebrate,” Reese said.
Which sounded fun, but also I was exhausted from the last three days.“Does celebrating involve sitting on the couch doing nothing and eating takeout?”
“I don’t see why not.”Brandon already had his phone out.“What do we want?We’ll pick something up on the way home, and then we don’t have to go anywhere or do anything once we’re inside.”
We picked up Mexican, and headed home.The celebration was tame, and we cheered as much for Reese’s good news as mine.It felt good to have the two of them here.All of us connected like this, cheering for each other’s successes.
After dinner, the giddy mood turned to making out and sex.Fast.Hard.Frantic.With Brandon initiating.
We were spent when we collapsed in bed.I was going to sleep like the dead tonight.I was right on that cusp of passing out, when the mattress shifted, and Brandon crept from the room.
And there went the ability to sleep.
“No, really, is it me?”Reese asked softly.
