He tilted his head, studying me for a moment before he asked, “You done here?”

“Yes.”

Bakari removed my arms, took my hand in his, and led me into the humid air. We strolled silently to the dark beach, waves the only sound permeating the air. He finally chose a lounger and patted the one across for me to join him. Letting my hand go, he quietly asked, “What do you want from me?”

“I don’t want anything from you.” He raised his brows, and I amended, “Okay, maybe sex.”

“So, you want to keep hooking up?”

“Yeah...I guess.” I wasn’t sure how to answer. Bakari was potential for most women and not just some random man. I could easily fall for him. Yet, I sensed he didn’t want more than sex.

“You guess, or you know?”

“’ Hooking up’ seems a crass way to describe us. Like we twenty-something.”

He grinned. “I’m twenty-seven. Do I look older?”

My head jerked slightly at that revelation. I didn’t date men younger than me. “No. You seemed older. At least my age.”

“My age bothers you, and I’m only five years younger.” He stated rather than asked.

“Probably wouldn’t have considered you if I’d known your age.”

Bakari shook his head. “Then you want more than hooking up.”

I grabbed his hand. “Come on, I just meant I wouldn’t have looked at you twice if I’d known you were younger. I’m good with just sex.”

He snorted. “Need to open your mind. Age is only a number.”

Tugging his hand, I conceded. “You’re right. I do need to be more open. I told you I don’t mind us having a purely sexual relationship. What other questions do you have?”

“What if I have a woman?”

My gut tightened. “The woman in the stall?”

This time his head jerked back. “Fuck no.”

“Why so strongly? You did have sex with her at some point.”

His eyebrows dipped until they almost met. “I didn’t. I met her on the plane to Jamaica, and she was determined to get my attention. I played along and entertained her since we both live in Atlanta. I went into the stall alone to wash some sand off me. You walked in shortly after she joined me uninvited. I was glad you interrupted because I could let her down much nicer than if you hadn’t. I actually didn’t come here looking for sex or a good time. I needed time away to be alone. I didn’t expect to meet a woman like you.”

“Oh.” I ducked my head to hide my grin. Knowing I was the only woman he’d been with in Jamaica made me feel special. She seemed more like the type of look he wanted than me, especially knowing he was still in his twenties. “So, is your woman back home a wife? I hope not. Don’t want that type of karma.”

Bakari promptly replied, “No. Not sure marriage is in the cards for me.”

“A woman you love?”

He shrugged. “Love is a complicated emotion.”

“Why are you telling me this if your woman is not your wife or someone you’re sure you love?”

“Because you’re looking for something serious, and that’s not me. Regardless of how I feel about her, I’m going back home to her. I want to be clear before we have sex again. The last thing I want to do is hurt you.”

“What if I just want to feel free for once? No expectations...no strings. Just enjoying sex with a beautiful man. Maybe I want the experience.” I rested my palms on his thighs and kissed him. “I leave the day after tomorrow, and the idea of not having another taste of you is a regret I don’t want to have.”

“Then, if you really want an experience, stay until Sunday.” I could still see his luminous smile even on the barely lit beach.

I laughed out loud. “Um...because I can’t afford it.”
