“And spend it on what? We have everything we really need here,” Thomas grumbled.

“Hey, I hear some of the graduates have bought cars and houses. Sure, they’re always on the move for hunts, but they need to pay to travel a lot. Besides, we could even go on holidays too once we graduate. Go overseas or something. No one said we can’t do that,” Matthew said.

“You really think the High Council of Angels will let us leave the country?” Flynn scoffed.

“Why not? We’re not a threat. Hell, they could make us hunt in another country,” Matthew said with a shrug.

“I think Hadley said she spoke with one of the graduates when they came here. Just before you arrived actually, Lily. She’d gone to Japan for holiday, and loved it,” Thomas said as he focused back on me. “So I guess traveling is allowed, although she had to get permission from Dezikiel.”

“So, what kind of life did you leave behind?” Flynn changed the subject as his eyes flicked to me.

“Oh, well, I’d just lost my job thanks to Jack. He wouldn’t let me leave the house, but now I know it was because of tracking spells,” I mumbled then sighed. “I was in a shitty apartment, stealing where necessary to get by. I didn’t leave much behind. My mom died when I was fourteen, and I ran away from my horrid aunt when I was barely sixteen and lived on the streets for a while,” I said with a shrug. “I was positive I was crazy because of my monsters, I just thought they were weird figments of my mind. Honestly thought I had schizophrenia or something. Kinda glad that’s not the case,” I admitted with a small smile.

“Definitely not crazy, sucks that you had it so rough,” Thomas said as he gave me a sad smile.

“Well, I’m here now,” I said quickly before giving them all a pitiful glance. “I’m sorry you guys had to leave everything behind. That must’ve been hard.”

“It is what it is,” Thomas said heavily, a frown marring his face as he got to his feet. “We should get back to training. Besides, looks like Jack wants you for something.”

I turned to find Jack was heading over from where I’d left him.

He probably wanted to have me continue my fireball training.

“Hey, Lily.”

I blinked, pulled from my thoughts as Diane gave me funny look.

Bug was watching me too, while Chumley was too busy helping himself to a third serving of cereal.

“Sorry, off in my own thoughts,” I apologized quickly and smiled.

“Clearly. Well, we just wanted to know if we could practice with you in the training yard. I want to see how our magic holds up against your fire if that’s okay,” Diane said as she flicked her gaze to her sister who nodded in agreement.

“Um, sure,” I said, wondering just how that would go.

“Great. Our magic can be used against angelics, and we would’ve used it differently with that creature if we’d known it was different from the start. Once we realized it was, Dezikiel had stepped in. I wonder how hard it would have been to take down?” She tapped her lips thoughtfully before shrugging. “C’mon, we’ll walk with you.”
