Lily sighed, clearly uneasy to do this sort of training. But after Charlie, she needed to learn all of her powers. As willing as we were to protect her, it would only help if she could also protect herself if needed. To do that she would need to access all the powers she had lying dormant inside her.
“Close your eyes, Lily,” Mr. Baron instructed.
Lily did as she was told, but her body was stiff and her jaw set.
“You need to relax and let your power flow through you,” he added as he noticed her tense posture with a shake of his head.
Lily let out the breath she was holding, her hands unfurling as she forced herself to relax.
Xander stood quietly, waiting for her to attempt to control him.
“Good, now reach out. Find his darkness and focus on it. Command it, take control of it, and make it do what you want,” Mr. Baron guided her.
Lily drew in another breath, her shoulders dropping down as well.
The minutes ticked by, and we all remained silent, even Xander, who waited with incredible patience.
Lily’s jaw was set with determination, her eyes still squeezed shut as she focused.
Chum and I waited with bated breath, while Mr. Baron just folded his arms.
Xander raised one arm and waved at us.
I just frowned in confusion, while Chum waved back with a grin.
“I’m not doing this,” Xander stated loudly as he grinned, although he looked rather shocked as well.
Mr. Baron clapped his hands in surprise, while Chum and I just exchanged looks.
“Damn, she got that fast,” Chum hissed, and I just nodded, equally amazed.
She’d done it. Sure, it wasn’t a huge amount of control, but it was something.
Lily’s eyes shot open in surprise as she grinned widely.
“Good work. You got that one pretty quickly. Xander, how are you feeling?” Mr. Baron asked carefully.
“I’m fine, just feels quite weird, not gonna lie,” Xander said sheepishly, still waving his hand as he stared at it like it was an alien.
“Just say something if it starts to hurt, promise?” Lily said as she allowed him to put his arm back down.
“Of course, I promise,” Xander said with a cheery grin.
I watched quietly as Lily continued to manipulate him, making him move his arms and take steps. They were jarred and a bit awkward, but I didn’t expect anything grand considering he was being manipulated.
“Wonderful work. But making him do such small movements is only the first step. With time and practice, if Xander is up for it, you’ll be able to fully control a demon and make them do your bidding,” Mr. Baron said as Xander’s arm flailed around wildly as he pulled a face at it.
“Like a servant,” Chum chimed in, and Xander snorted.
“If that’s how she chooses to manipulate them. But in battle, she could turn them on their comrades. Eventually, once you get strong enough, you’ll even be able to force them from their vessels, exorcising them with just your will,” Mr. Baron added, which intrigued Lily.
My brothers and I had learned exorcisms in our second year, as did all students. These could be performed to rescue a host from possession.
Jack, Creeper, and Chumley had all gone on a handful of such missions over the years. Where they had to subdue and exorcise demons without damaging their host’s bodies if they could. Latin incantations were how they were best performed, and tended to be the quickest.
Diane and Hadley were well-versed in it, and were able to restrain demons with their magics and perform the exorcising faster than any of the other students here.
Lily would learn it soon enough, but if this power only grew along with her control, I could only imagine what she could do.
At this rate, she was going to become a pro.
Anyone who dare to come after her was going to be in for a huge surprise. She was quick to master her powers lately. And I knew there was so much more hidden inside her.
I couldn’t wait for us to uncover it together.
