CHUMLEY (KRODAN)

My heart practically exploded as Lily’s wings revealed themselves and her eyes lit up blindingly before she vanished right before us.

Jack roared a primal, bestial sound that shook the room as he lunged for Jackiel.

Jackiel cursed as his own wings sprouted, and he knocked Jack back with a wave of powerful angel magic.

“She’s safe!” Jackiel shouted as Creeper launched at him as well.

These words were enough to make him falter, but my blood was boiling as my hellhound clawed and cried, desperate to find her.

“Where the fuck did she go?” Xander snapped as everyone looked around at one another frantically.

“She’s probably in Heaven. She would’ve left without telling you because you cannot follow her there,” Jackiel stated as he folded up on his back neatly.

“You knew she’d go?” Jack was fuming now as he got back to his feet, fire burning in his eyes. I couldn’t keep the growl from rumbling through me as well.

“She will be safe. Dariel will help her. She wouldn’t have said anything, because you would’ve tried to stop her, correct?” Jackiel said as he snatched up his empty glass from the coffee table.

“She shouldn’t be going there alone, the angels want her dead,” Diane spoke up, and I turned to see the fear evident in her face, along with Hadley’s. Hell, everyone looked beyond stressed about this.

“She needs us,” Bug said softly as his jaw twitched, and Jack turned to look at us both.

How could we have lost her again like this? Why? Why would she not tell us?

No, I knew why. Because she was afraid we’d stop her, or we’d get hurt. She was always so worried about others. And yet, I knew she was terrified of how the weight of the world rested on her shoulders.

“You’re going to get us there,” Creeper snapped as he moved towards Jackiel.

“I can’t do that, only those with angelic grace can get into Heaven,” Jackiel said quickly as he threw up his hands non-threateningly, still holding his glass.

“You have to,” Creeper growled as he balled his hands into fists.

“He can’t,” Miss Sage said quietly as she shook her head. “She’s on her own now.”

Those words cut deep as I snarled, and my brothers all rumbled with rage as their eyes blazed with fire.

We’d let her slip away right before us, failing our entire purpose, our sole reason for being. To protect her from everything that meant her harm.

“How can she do this alone? It’s not fair, I don’t want her alone in this,” Diane whimpered.

“She’ll be fine, she’s strong,” Jackiel tried to assure her, but we all rounded on him.

“She’s still just a child,” Lana spoke up. “She’s in danger there.”

The fire burned within me as my hellhound bristled and snarled, desperate to break free. But to do what? Harm Jackiel? He hadn’t done this. This had been Lily’s choice. She’d decided to go, to leave without a word so we wouldn’t stop her.

And it broke me.

“What if she’s not strong enough?” Hadley whispered, and Jackiel just clucked his tongue.

“There may have been one other thing I didn’t mention,” he said as he stared at his empty glass, a smile forming as he glanced at my brothers and me. “But she has the power of her mother within her. And Remiel was no ordinary angel. She was an archangel.”
