“Thomas,” I breathed as he shot up from his seat and dashed over.

I managed a small laugh of relief as he wrapped his arms around me, and I hugged him back tight.

“You’re in Heaven,” I choked out as emotions flooded through me.

“Yeah, yeah, seems that way,” he managed to say as he tightened his arms around me for a moment longer before he pulled back.

“Is this a friend of yours?” the woman at the table stood.

Thomas cleared his throat as he turned to the people, and it took me a moment to realize it was his family. I recognized his sister now as she sat at the table. But that couldn’t be possible…

“Yes, she’s a friend, mom, I’m just going to chat with her outside if that’s okay,” Thomas said as he gave his mother a warm smile.

“Oh, of course, although, you’re welcome to join us for dinner,” she said as she focused on me.

“Thanks, I already ate,” I said, not even sure why I chose to say that as Thomas ushered me back outside.

“What’s the deal with your family?” I asked as soon as the door was closed and we headed down the steps.

“They’re my Heaven. I can actually check in on my family and watch over everyone from here, but I can retreat into these memories if I want to just relax. It’s nice,” Thomas explained as he looked up at the house with a pleasant smile. Then he just gave me an awestruck look. “You have damn wings.”

“Right, yeah, I’m part angel,” I said as I shook my head. “I didn’t think demonics could get into Heaven,” I admitted.

“I wasn’t sure either, but I guess we can,” he said as his smile softened. “You’ve got a lot on your shoulders now, don’t you? Saving the world and shit.”

“How do you—"

“I can watch over my friends, Lily. See what goes on at times, I know the truth with you and what you are, what you can do,” he explained. “I also know that you need to get to Michael.”

“This is insane, you’re here, in Heaven, the others would love to know that,” I said, wanting to just focus on him for a moment. I still couldn’t believe it was him, that he was truly here.

“And you can tell them I’m here, and I’m okay. I’m at peace and happy,” he assured me as he rested his hands on my shoulders. “But you’re on the greatest mission of them all, and Dezikiel warned me you might need me.”

“What? How?” I gaped, struggling to comprehend what he’d just said. How would Dezikiel have contacted him? Had he known he was in Heaven? What the hell was going on?

“Dezikiel and Jophiel are here, they were taken as prisoners. He was able to send word to me that you were coming. The High Council is a mess, but a lot of the angels knew of Remiel’s premonitions. How you could stop Armageddon. Now that they know the hybrid is alive and real, the angels are warring. And you need to get to Michael, he’s the only one who can set this all straight. He is God’s favorite son, and he’ll help you,” Thomas said quickly as he glanced around. “I take it the Gatekeeper is gone?”

“You knew about Dariel?” I was still taking in what he’d just told me. Jophiel and Dezikiel were here as prisoners? What would I do about that?

“Yes, didn’t know their name, but Dezikiel said they’d help you until they couldn’t. Then I had to help you,” he said as he took my wrist.

“Help me how?” How on earth could he help me? What did he suddenly know I didn’t? I mean, he had died and was a soul in Heaven, but surely he was as clueless as I was, right?

“Dezikiel said if you wound up with me, it meant you were using back doors through Heaven to reach Michael. We need to find another doorway, and you need to focus on how you want to find Michael. That’ll hopefully get you to his Heaven,” Thomas explained as he dragged me around the house.

“That’s all?” I blurted in exasperation. I could’ve just done that with the archway.

“Not entirely, it’s still no guarantee you’ll end up in the right Heaven, you just have to keep trying.” Thomas paused on the footpath out the front of his house as he looked up and down the street. “Dumb question, what’s these doorways look like?”

Great. I was fucked. Thomas was trying to help with the limited information he’d been given, but he was as lost as I was.

At least I wasn’t alone now though.

“Um, the last one I went through was a random stone archway,” I said with a frown. How would we find another?

Wait, Jackiel had said let my grace guide me. And my mother’s voice had helped me.
