My heart pounded against my ribcage like a wild bird frantically seeking freedom, and I instinctively reached up and clutched my pendant.

‘Focus your magic into your pendant’.

I gritted my teeth, closing my eyes as I prayed it would work, my wings cradling me protectively.

I had to survive this and get to Michael. I had to see this through. For my mother, for my father, for my friends, my hellhounds.

I had to.

My power surged through me, coursing through my veins like an electric charge, and my pendant burned to life in my hand, vibrating with energy.

I felt that deep connection in me burn to the surface, calling upon the buried link hidden inside me.

I flared my wings out as I screamed, my power erupting forth like a magical golden-white barrier, shock waves rolling towards the angels as they shot their own power towards me.

My hellhounds came forth, manifesting around me in a flurry of snarls and intense power.

But everything was different, I could feel the charged power, how grand it was. And despite the glowing of my eyes, I could see my hellhounds in their humanoid states, their coats white as snow as golden-white wings spread out. They took up stances around me, their wings spread out as their eyes glowed goldenly.

The powerful blasts from the angels exploded against the white barrier.

My hellhounds snarled as they balled their fists, standing firm just within the barrier I’d created. Their golden white wings glowed, and a calm washed over me as my magic linked us together, the fine lines of power burning through our wings like intricate golden lights, marking them with angelic patterns.

I straightened as an ease settled over me, and I held my hand up, the barrier exploding outwards and knocking the angels back.

“What’s going on here?!”

The voice struck something deep inside me, commanding me to stand down as I turned around.

The man standing behind me didn’t look like much in his jeans and red plaid shirt, but the piercing look in his blue eyes and the imposing power that thrummed around him had me pausing.

I knew who he was before he even said a word.

“Michael,” I breathed as my hellhounds folded their wings up, sensing the power he wielded.

“Who are you?” Michael demanded as his gaze locked onto me.

“Remiel sent me to find you with a vision. I’m the Divine Key,” I called out across the open space between us. I knew the angels behind us were rising, but they would surely stand down now.

Not that that stopped my hellhounds from turning to protect my back. Seeing them with such blinding white coats was something beyond anything I could have ever imagined.

Michael stilled at this, his gaze sweeping over my hellhounds, then to my wings. His tenseness faded as he started towards me, resembling a tired farmer in his worn boots, his graying brown hair slicked back and his beard overgrown.

“So you must be the hybrid, the one who can end the war of our kinds,” he mused as he drew up a few paces before me.

Jack and Bug stood out in front, but they made no move, simply watching him carefully, their horns pulsing golden.

“She’s an abomination!”

Michael arched a brow as he glanced over my shoulder, as if he’d not even noticed the dozen angels there.

“She’s the Key,” Michael stated simply. “Now, how about you come with me and join me over some tea so we can discuss what it is you’re here for. Remiel always saw great visions, but even I’ve known about the Divine Key for a long time. Centuries now. I never thought I’d see the day.”

“Your brothers want her handled,” one of the angels cried out behind me, and my hellhounds snarled.

“Quiet!” Michael held up his hand, his voice booming across the area despite his rather normal tone. He sighed as he focused on me. “Come, we’re going to have some tea, and my brothers and sisters here are going to leave us in peace,” he said forcefully as he gave his siblings a sharp look.

“Michael, we can’t let you do that,” one angel shouted out.
