“Now, brother, do you really want to do this again?” Lucifer tutted as Michael clasped his hands before him and straightened.

“Mankind is a parasite!” Uriel argued.

“How pissed would you be if I smote him?” Lucifer mused quietly as he turned to Michael and winked at me.

“Don’t,” Michael groaned.

“You’re no fun,” Lucifer’s smirk dropped as he rolled his eyes.

“Uriel, sit your ass down before I send you on a lovely vacation to my neck of the woods,” Lucifer warned, and Uriel hesitated.

“You both went into retirement, without Michael leading us, we had to start doing things on our own. Raphael and I had to step up since you all decided to abandon your duties,” Uriel stated.

“Abandon isn’t exactly what I’d say.”

I stiffened as the far doors opened up, and three angels wearing the same armor as Michael and Lucifer entered.

“Ah, I’m glad you all got my message,” Michael smiled, and Lucifer grinned like a boy on Christmas.

Uriel turned, and his face paled as the three new angels strode down the aisle, all muscle and imposing, causing those closest to shrink down.

Archangels.

“Gabriel, Saraqael, and Raguel, I’m so glad you all chose to attend,” Michael added.

“You best sit down, brother. You stand alone now. You may have angels backing you, but no other archangel will stand with you. Raphael is gone, I’m sure you felt that. Those who stand with you will be tried for treason, going against our father’s orders,” Gabriel stated as he paused at the end of the pew where Uriel stood.

Uriel glanced around the room, his expression shifting to one of utter defeat when no one else stood to defend him. He sunk back down, his face cast downward as the three archangels continued towards us.

“Lucy, I’m surprised you’re still here,” Gabriel cracked a grin, looking like a chiseled Greek God, along with his two brothers. Retirement had clearly treated them better than Michael, although something told me he was just the humblest of them.

“And miss all this fun? Hell no,” Lucifer laughed.

I glanced at the other two archangels, Saraqael and Raguel. I’d seen their names mentioned in our textbooks, but Michael, Lucifer, and Gabriel had been the main ones, even Uriel and Raphael had appeared in my readings more times than these two.

“Well, as you can see, we’ve all come out of retirement to set things right. God’s word is law, so punishment will be dealt out to all those who went along with this,” Gabriel called out as he stood by his brothers.

No one said a word in the crowd, but I could see some uneasy shifting, and terrified faces.

“Now, for those who don’t know what’s been going on, the Divine Key has been found, in the form of a hybrid of our kinds,” Michael said.

This finally caused mutters and gaps to rise up, and my hellhounds stiffened around me. They were silenced though as Michael raised a hand.

“Yes, a hybrid is not meant to be possible, but it has happened. This young woman with me is none other than the daughter of Remiel, our sister,” Michael said as he glanced at his immediate brothers that had just joined us by the podium.

The three looked stunned as they gazed over me, and Gabriel stepped closer.

“Your power, it feels like hers,” he murmured as he eyed my hellhounds with an intrigued smile. “And you’ve brought hounds to Heaven, I can feel the grace in them. Amazing.”

“As you all may know from the transcriptions of the prophets, the Divine Key can be used to close the gates of Hell permanently, something we’ve sought since the beginning of time.”

“Maybe if Lucifer did his job and kept those demons in Hell, we’d not have to be worried about it,” someone called out from the crowd.

“Would any of you like to take over the position of Warden of the entirety of Hell?” Lucifer boomed as his eyes blazed, and the crowd stilled. “Yeah, didn’t think so.”

“Not to mention our father was never one to make things easy, the Divine Key was never actually described, so we had no idea what we were looking for,” Gabriel added.

“Until Remiel foresaw it. Speaking of, Uriel, why don’t you join us up here? I have questions regarding our sister and her fall. You and Raphael were left in charge while we took our retirement for this millennium,” Michael called upon Uriel, whose head snapped up with the look of a deer caught in headlights.
