“We might have to wait at least a year before the wedding though,” I said, speaking softly into his ear.

Alex pulled back and gave me a curious look before it hit him.

“Are you saying you’re…”

We hadn’t been trying, but we hadn’t exactly been avoiding pregnancy either. Ollie had been begging for a brother or sister, and we had wanted to give him one eventually.

Sooner rather than later apparently.

“Yes,” I said. Warm tears slid down my cheeks.

“Uh oh, Mommy sad now,” Ollie said.

“No, honey, Mommy isn’t sad at all… Sometimes we cry when we’re happy too.”

Alex still looked like a deer in the headlights. He brought my hand up to his mouth kissing it softly, and his smile stretched wide across his face. “I’m going to be a father again.”

“You are, and Ollie… you’re going to be a big brother.”

Ollie’s little face lit up and he wriggled out of his chair. He did a little dance, waving his hands in the air. “Yes!” he said over and over again as he celebrated.

“Come here, little man,” Alex said, reaching for Ollie and pulling him into a group hug.

I was living my happily ever after.

The End
