“Okay.” Her voice sounded so small and he kicked himself for ruining their good time.
He pulled her into his arms and kissed her forehead. “I’m sorry, baby. I’m just stressed about stuff.”
“It’s okay. You can talk to me about anything, you know.”
The thought of opening up and exposing all the putrid secrets that were hidden within him was almost as terrifying as the thought of her rejecting him after she learned what a monster he was. She’d never look at him the same. “I know. Now let’s get this mess cleaned up and I’ll drop you off at home before I go.”
She gave him a peck on the cheek before they got to work. “Sounds like a plan.”
