The purr of an engine drew Brynn’s attention to a shiny black, small SUV. It parked beside them, and a young man climbed out with a smile.

“Hey, Aaron.” He clapped hands with her husband and pounded his fist.

“Keith. Damn, you look healthy.” Aaron laughed.

Keith patted his belly. “Mom’s cooking will do that to ya.” His gaze wandered to her.

“This is my wife, Brynn,” Aaron said.

“What did this guy do to trick you into marrying his ugly mug?” Keith teased.

Brynn bit back her smile.

“Asshole.” Aaron playfully shoved Keith’s shoulder.

Keith snickered.

“Alright, my old bones can only take so much of this cold weather. I’m gonna head inside and get the paperwork ready. As hard as it is to believe, you’re in capable hands.” Toby motioned to his son.

“Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence, Dad.” Keith waved him off.

Toby chuckled and went back inside.

“Paperwork?” Brynn asked, turning to Aaron.

“For your new car—if you choose to get one. They are having a sale, right, Keith?” Aaron turned to the young man.

“Right.” Keith nodded so fast he looked like a bobblehead.

Funny how when she’d gone shopping for wedding dresses, the same thing had happened. But Brynn had never been a lucky person. She narrowed her eyes on Aaron. No. He wasn’t even at the dress shop.

She was being paranoid. “I thought we were just looking?”

“Can you give us a minute, Keith?” Aaron asked.

“Sure, take your time.” Keith walked into the main building.

Aaron turned to Brynn, taking her cold cheeks in his warm hands. His breaths came out in a puff of smoke in the cold air. She pulled her coat tighter across her chest.

“I want you to have the ability to be more independent and not need to rely on me or the bus to go where you want. To do that you need some wheels.”

He wanted this for her? Her heart squeezed. “I don’t think I can afford something as nice as these. And you’re not buying me a car, so don’t even think of asking.”

“I figured you’d say that. So that’s what Toby is in there doing. I’ll have to cosign the loan, since you don’t have any credit, but it will be in both our names. And he’ll work out a payment that’s affordable.”

She blinked. When would this man stop surprising her at every turn? Gratitude welled inside, sloshing over the edge and spilling into her chest. “Kiss me.”

His lips quirked up. “For Keith?”

“No. For me.”

He leaned in, capturing her mouth much like he’d done to her heart. She stood on tiptoes, clutching his wool jacket in her hands as his fingers threaded through her loose short hair.

When he pulled back, his lips were shiny, and the happiness that reflected in his eyes mirrored her own. Never in a million years would she have expected someone like Aaron to exist. And now that she’d found him, she wasn’t sure she wanted to let him go. No, she wanted more perfect moments like this, where he looked at her, as if she was his whole world—and she believed it.
