My smile’s delirious. Strange, how it feels less like we met yesterday, and more like a lifetime ago. I know so little about this man, and so much. I know he cares for me. He loves me.

I know that I love him and always will.

“Summer, baby…” He takes my hands in each of his, pinning them above my head. His nostrils flare as he breathes in deep, then out, his hickory eyes ensnaring mine as he stares down.

“Falling in love with you has been the most complete experience of my entire life,” Boyd says in a low, low tone, as if pilfering my own thoughts and reflecting them right back at me. “Stay. Please, stay.”

“I’m staying.”

“Good.” His exhale is a breath of solace. “Hey. How about we go eat all the food.”

My stomach says yes. “Okay. I hope you like it.”

“I’m sure I will. It smells really good.” We pad across the cabin without a stitch of clothing. “I had no idea you could cook like this,” Boyd admires, pouring me a cup full of elixir he calls ‘coffee’. “What else you holding out on me, girl?”

“Nothing.” I shrug. “I found one of your cookbooks.” I bring the coffee to my lips, blowing it. Like so many things in the Darkness, it’s a shot of heaven.

After breakfast, we shower and spend the whole day together.
