“I’m afraid I’ve made this about me,” I say, searching desperately for a way to close my speech. “My point is, those people who say you can’t do it? They are right—as long you keep listening to them, they are right. You will never know what you are capable of until you reach out and grab it, go out and do it. Do you have any idea what you could achieve?” I look to Marin. “Or who you could meet.”

Afterward, it’s a lot. Handshakes, questions, painted-on smile that hurts my cheeks. Once I am officially peopled the fuck out, I retreat to my hotel room. A shot of whiskey warms me up and calms me down.

Later that night there’s a knock on my door, and instinctively I know who that is before I even go to it.

I can feel the calm of her presence outside of my room. I open the door to a slice of heaven. Did I even know happiness, did I know peace before this woman swept into my life? Her ethereal face is damp with tears that aren’t sad.

I look down at her smiling, and lean on the doorframe. “Coming to your boss’s hotel room. That’s gotta be breaking some kind of rule or what did you like to call it,” I tease, “social code.”

A grinning Marin bats her eyelashes. “It definitely does.”

“But you don’t care.”

“I don’t care.”

“I think I’m rubbing off on you,” I say with a smirk.

“I wish you would.” She swallows, then biting her plump bottom lip she flicks those beautiful blues up at me. “Rub off on me, I mean.”

Now I’m fucking hot all over. Specially my cock. “Oh, baby. Come in.”

Because to hell with being polite.
