“What if we don’t have to imagine?”
Hazel shakes her head. “What do you mean?”
“What if we switched places? Take some time to see what our lives would have been if this mix-up didn’t happen.”
Hazel stands up and puts some space between us. “I’m not sure that’s a good idea.”
“You said it yourself, you’ve wondered what your life could have been. We can switch places for a week. A chance to get to experience our what-if life, and then we can go back to our normal lives. At least, back to some semblance of our lives before our worlds were turned upside down.”
“One week?” Hazel asks.
“That’s it.” I shrug.
Hazel is quiet as she thinks about her answer. I’m pretty sure she’s going to back out, but then she surprises me.
“Okay, let’s do it.”
