“I know you haven’t been up here much in the last decade and a half, but you should know it’s like a different world once you exit.”

Before I can reply, a pair of headlights flash up ahead. “I think someone is coming.”

“That’s probably Gabe, but I’ll stay on the line with you until we know for sure.”

“No, you don’t have to do that. I’ve already ruined your night,” I insist, hating that I’ve interrupted an impromptu hotel night between Hallie and Curtis.

“Pssh, please! I can see him anytime, but I never get to see you. I’m just sad I’m not there. But we’ll be back in town as soon as we can tomorrow morning. Then, we’re hanging out for almost two whole days.”

The vehicle races toward me, faster than any car or truck ever could. “Holy shit, what does your brother drive, a spaceship?”

Hallie snorts a laugh. “Uh, no. He’s probably on his snowmobile.”

My throat instantly goes desert-dry the moment realization sets in. “I can’t ride that thing,” I whisper.

“Uhh, you’re going to have to, Blair. Otherwise, it’s going to be a long, cold walk to his house,” she teases.

The machine stops right next to where my Kia is stuck in the snow, and this big hulk of a man climbs off. The moment he slips off the helmet, a small gasp slips from my throat.

“Are you okay?”

“Yes,” I reply, a little too quickly and emphatically. Gabe walks up to my door and gives me a small smile.

Holy hell, what a grin it is.

Even in the dark, that one small gesture lights up his entire face, and suddenly, a warmth spreads through my veins, much hotter and deeper than the heater inside this car could provide.

“Is that Gabe?”

“Yes,” I reply, flashing the man outside my car a quick grin. “Listen, Hal, I need to go.”

“Call me in the morning, okay?”

“Will do. Have a good one,” I reply, signing off after a quick goodbye.

Then, I open my door and step outside, ready to face the gorgeous man who is here to rescue me.
