“Really?” That one word comes out just above a whisper.
“Really. When I saw you standing in the flower shop, my first thought was that your lips were the most lush, perfect lips I had ever seen.”
As if by gravity pulling us together, Jaime leans in the rest of the way and her lips meet mine. It’s a tender kiss filled with question and longing. Unspoken questions fill the night air. What will happen if I deepen this kiss the way my body craves? Is she ready to move forward? Is she as attracted to me as I am to her? Will she keep an open mind if I ask her to consider a relationship? Can I convince her to take the chance?
But I’m not going to think about the answers to any one of them. Not right now.
Instead, I rejoice in the way her mouth molds to my own, the way she tastes. Her tongue slides alongside mine, causing my cock to tighten painfully in my pants. I should probably adjust it for comfort, but I can’t seem to remove my hands from her hair.

If she decides to head out, then I’m right back to square one, fighting to slay the ghosts of her past. At least this time I know what I’m up against. I know the damage caused by some douchebag who threw her away like yesterday’s takeout.
I know which route I’m hoping she takes, but I’m even more surprised when she actually chooses.
With her hand resting firmly in my own, Jaime offers me a smile and says, “I’d love to go inside and have a drink with you.”
