She runs around and grabs my clothes from the floorboard of my truck. There’s a smile playing on her lips as she steps in front of me, refusing to make eye contact.

“I actually prefer to help get him undressed,” she mumbles to herself as she grabs my boxer briefs and drops to her knees in the dirt.

I’m unable to help it, but my cock starts to thicken at the sight before me. Jaime’s eyes go wide as she takes in my half-hard erection. “God, do you have to do that now?” she mumbles, eyes dancing with delight. At least they’re not filled with tears anymore.

“Can’t help it, sweetheart.” As she starts to slide my boxers up my legs, I remember I’m still wearing the condom. “Uh, Jaime? Do you think you could help with the…thing?”

Jaime closes her eyes briefly before reaching up and touching my dick. Sure, it’s to remove the protection from earlier, but it’s contact nonetheless.

As soon as my boxers are around my hips and my junk safely concealed within, she helps me slip into my jeans. There’s no way I’m getting a shirt on while wearing the cuffs, and I don’t foresee Barney removing the restraints so I can fully dress.

“That’s good enough,” he finally says and pulls me towards the squad car. “You, too, missy. Get in the car.”

Locking eyes with Jaime, I’m lowered into the back of the car. Jaime runs over to my truck and grabs the keys from the ignition, my wallet that was discarded on the floor, and her purse. She’s still gripping my shirt and boots when she walks around to the opposite side of the car. Barney helps Jaime get in, her sans cuffs.

“Next stop, central booking,” he says as he throws the car in gear.

Jaime deposits my clothes, drops my keys and wallet into her purse, and slides over to the middle of the car. I feel her warm fingers link with mine behind my back just before her head rests on my shoulder.

As fucked up as this entire situation is, with her curled up against me, it doesn’t quite seem so bad.

At least that’s what I’m gonna keep telling myself.

***

It’s official.

Sitting on the hard plastic bench in central booking, surrounded by a drunk who is passed out, a woman repeating ‘I didn’t do it’ over and over again, and a ninety-year-old man known around town for continually being busted for stealing garden gnomes, I realized something big. I have fallen in love.

I’m talking paint it on the water tower, using cutesy nicknames like snookums and peaches, in it for the rest of your life kinda love. Forever.

Sure, I realized that this was probably heading in that direction, but sitting beside Jaime on this hard bench after both being processed by an old friend of hers from high school, I made the life-changing realization. Like a flashing neon arrow board, all signs have led me straight to her.

I’m in love with Jaime.

It’s a realization I don’t take lightly, yet am unable to react. Jaime will hightail it so fast in the other direction that I’d barely see her taillights through the cloud of dust. It’s a risk I’m not willing to take. At least not yet. I need to gradually work towards confessions of the heart.

My arm is wrapped protectively around her, her head resting comfortably on my shoulder. Neither of us have said too much as we sit in a pee-scented cell with three other people. After being processed and all personal effects removed, I was allowed to put on my shirt, socks, and boots. Jaime had to turn over her purse and cell phone but was still able to call Payton to come and get us.

Charges are still pending, but I’m hopeful that this entire mess can be swept under the rug. No way do I want–or need–an indecent exposure and trespassing rap attached to my name. As a business owner in a small town, that could be a career killer. And I don’t want that for Jaime either. I don’t want people looking at her and whispering behind her back all because I couldn’t control myself another five minutes until we could get to my condo.

I’m just about to apologize once more when a door is pulled open and closed somewhere in the distance. The echo drowns out the mumblings from the other woman in the cell, if only for a few short seconds.

“Indecent exposure and trespassing? You know we expected this kinda behavior from Lexi or maybe AJ, but never you, Jaime.”

Emma and Orval are both standing on the other side of the bars, each one wearing their own brand of cat that ate the canary smile.

“Thanks, Payton,” she mumbles under her breath as we both stand up and head towards them.

“It’s not what it looks like,” I start.

“No? So you weren’t busted fornicating with our granddaughter on private property? ‘Cause that’s what it looks like to me,” Orval says, trying hard to fight a smile.

“Okay, so maybe it is what it looks like, but this is entirely my fault.”

“Oh, quit being so noble, Ryan. I remember those days when Orval and I would go parking around town and go at it like crazed felines. Of course, we didn’t always have a car, but that’s another story. Heck, one time when we were at a softball game for the twins, Grandpa and I…”

“Grandma, please don’t finish that sentence,” Jaime begs, her face as red as a cherry.
