“You never know who might stop by for dinner, Butterfly. You still haven’t met the extended family.”

“I’ll have my chance next weekend, right? Are we still going to Jupiter Bay for a visit?” I ask, excited to meet the rest of the family, including Emma and Orval’s son-in-law and his new bride, and their six granddaughters.

“We are. I’ve already talked to Ryan and Jaime. I was going to book us a hotel room, but they insisted we stay in their guest room. They’re getting ready to turn it into a nursery, and I’m pretty sure he’s wanting help moving everything out before we leave,” he says with a smile.

“I can’t believe almost all of your cousins are pregnant at the same time. How crazy is that?”

“They’re a crazy family, and I mean that in the best way possible. I enjoy spending time with them. Plus, Max is pumped to see Sawyer again,” he says, referring to the former pro-ball player married to his cousin, AJ, and Max’s biggest hero.

“Speaking of, when do you get Max?” I ask as Jensen opens the cabinet below the grill, turns the propane valve, and pushes the circular button on the bottom left of the massive grill. It fires to life. “Jerk.”

“Don’t be a sour sport, Kate,” he laughs, pulling me against his chest once more. It’s warm and firm and right where I want to be. “To answer your question, he comes back Thursday after school.”

“That’s so far away,” I grumble into his shirt. It smells like his deodorant and dirt—my favorite combination.

“It’s hard when he’s with his mom,” he agrees.

I grind my hips against his. “Yes, very hard.”

“Minx, that’s not what I meant.”

“No, but I kinda like my version better. It keeps my mind off your adorable son and how much I miss him when he’s not here.”

“I have an idea,” he says, grabbing me by my arms and leading me around the grill. We walk down the cobblestone walkway until we’re standing alongside the pool.

“What are we doing?” I ask.

He doesn’t reply, just smirks. I know I’m in trouble. He places his shoulder into my stomach and lifts. I have just enough time to close my eyes and hold my breath before we hit the refreshing water in a giant splash. I come up sputtering and wiping water from my face. “What the hell was that?”

“You were looking a little hot. I thought I’d help cool you down,” he says, pulling me back into his arms. My legs wrap around his waist as his mouth devours mine. The firmness of his erection presses hard against my clit. All sorts of dirty images parade through my mind.

“Do you want kids, Butterfly?” he asks, kissing down the column of my neck.

His question doesn’t even faze me. “I want to fill all of those rooms upstairs.”

“That’s a lot of rooms,” he growls, rocking himself against my body.

“So many rooms. There’s one for Max and one for every child God blesses us with,” I whisper, not quite sure how I’m still able to form complete sentences with him teasing me the way he is.

“I want that too, Kate. With you.” His electric blue eyes lock on mine and I can see his conviction as clear as the vibrant sky.

I reach down, grazing my hand along where his erection strains within their blue jean confines. “We should probably start, though. They say it doesn’t always happen on the first try.”

His hands grip my ass, holding me firmly against him. A moan of pleasure spills from my lips as my head falls back in ecstasy. “Practice makes perfect,” he growls, licking my neck before his lips land on mine once more.

This kiss is everything.

Our future.

“I’m not a patient man, Butterfly, not when it comes to you. I’ve waited for you for years, but I don’t want to wait anymore. I want to marry you and get you pregnant more than I want my next breath,” he confesses, his fingers trying to get through the wet material plastered to our bodies.

“I want it.”

“Then maybe you need to join me in the pool house, Butterfly. We can get a jump,” he says, flexing his hips upward, “on that practicing.”

Jensen swims us to the stairs, and with me still wrapped around his waist, steps out of the pool. His jeans are rough against my bare thighs, but I don’t complain. Instead, I pull myself closer and press my lips to his. He carries me to the pool house, the screened door slamming behind us.

He presses me into the wall, deepening the kiss. Everything I’ve ever wanted is wrapped up in this one man and his son. Everything I see for my future is right before me, waiting. “I love you,” he tells me, running his lips along the shell of my ear.

“I love you too. Now let’s get to practicing.”
