Epilogue - Connor

Two Weeks Later

I decideto walk back from Lennox and Katrina’s place, needing the time to get my head on straight.

I’m happy for my friend, reuniting with his first love and getting engaged. Starting a life together. But I can’t help but feel a little jealous.

Of his happiness.

Unlike my older brother, Cohen, and Lennox, I didn’t have major issues to adjusting to civilian life. What I did have trouble with was being alone. I was so used to having people around me, first my family then my brothers-in-arms when I was enlisted. Being discharged due to my injury was a fate I never saw coming.

I had planned to be a lifer.

That obviously hadn’t gone to plan.

I loved living on this mountain, but it was isolating. If I wanted to scratch an itch or meet a woman for a night of fun, I had to go a couple towns over. No one in the small town at the base of the mountain was interested me, and it wasn’t like some damsel in distress was going to show up at my door and knock me on my ass.

That thought had me grinning.

Rounding the final bend on the road back to my cabin, I take a deep breath. Soaking in the cool air and taking in the swirling colors of the fading sun. The sky was breathtaking tonight.

I’m so captivated by the colors that I don’t see the car off to the side of my dirt driveaway.

I come to a dead stop when a voice calls out down the path.

“It’s about time you showed up. You know it’s rude to keep your bride waiting.”

My gaze flicks to a woman in white leaning on my porch railing with her arms crossed. Her thick brown hair is tossed over one shoulder and doesn’t move in the gentle breeze.

My heart begins to race as I take in her luscious curves and sexy frown. Then what she just said hits.

“My bride?”

The End.
