Me:Who the fuck is this?

As if the person was anticipating my reply, he responds almost immediately.

Unknown Number: You stole my bird, boy. I’m here to take her back. Sasha has always been mine. You only thought she was yours.

Dimitri Sokolov.

Me:See, that’s where you’re delusional. Snowflakes land where they choose. Mine always comes back to me. I don’t have to lock her in a cage to keep her.

Unknown Number:She’s been locked in a cage for years. She just doesn’t know it. I know where she is at every minute of the day. I have for a very long time. I can take my little bird anytime that I want. Hell, I might take them both.

A photo comes through next. It takes longer than it should to load, but once it does, I click on it. It’s my sister and Sasha. They’re both standing by Si’s car. Sasha on the driver’s side and Si on the opposite. They’re talking or arguing over the roof of Sienna’s Mercedes that’s parked on the curb in front of a house I don’t recognize.

Unknown Number:You people have a lack of authority over your women. They do what they want rather than what they’re told. It’ll be my pleasure bringing these two to heel.

Me: Motherfucker, you harm either and I’ll make sure your death is slow and more painful than you can imagine.

I’m standing before I know where I’m headed. My keys are in my pocket, so there’s nothing I need to grab since my phone’s already in my hand. I need to call Dom, but I’ll do it when I get in my SUV. Another text comes through as I exit my office and head for the back stairwell that’ll take me to the alley where my vehicle is parked.

When I fling the door open and step outside, I come to an abrupt stop. The barrel at the side of my head is what I notice first. The door shuts behind me, and that’s when I see the other pistol outstretched in a man’s hand to my left.

“Drop the phone. Put your hands up so I can see them.” That came from the man on my right.

“Don’t make any sudden movements. Boss wants you alive.” The other guy chuckles. “But he didn’t say we had to bring you back unharmed.” Both men have an accent, similar to Sasha’s parents. They’re Russian. And if I had to bet my life on it, their boss is none other than Dimitri Sokolov.
