Suddenly, a scream went up. “She’s got a gun!”

Kylee whirled to see Mimi pointing a gun at her, rage filling her features.

“I own you, and you’ll never be more beautiful than me!” Mimi screamed.

“Olivet?” King Frederick questioned.

“No!” her grandfather yelled.

Mimi was completely focused on Kylee. The small handgun in her grip was aimed at Kylee’s heart. People scrambled to get away from Kylee even as she heard many voices in her ear and saw Klein and Reed sprinting in her direction. Reed yanked a gun out of his suit pocket, but he couldn’t stop Mimi.

A body flew into Kylee, knocking her to the ground as Mimi’s gun discharged. A second gun went off and Kylee heard a shriek from her grandmother and a thud.

Warm liquid oozed onto her thigh where the slit had been pushed up. She looked at her rescuer. “Grandpa?”

He smiled wanly at her. His face was pale and blood oozed from his leg. “Lucky for us, she’s a terrible shot,” he said.

“Why would you save me?” she rushed out. “The jade necklace you gave me led the hitman straight to me.”

“It was a tracking device?” Grandpa shook his head. “Oh, my girl, I didn’t know that. Olivet must’ve had the jeweler add that.”

Kylee had no clue if she could trust him, but he had saved her life.

Mimi was shrieking as Reed, Klein, and Bailey descended on her. “Don’t touch me, you foul serving people,” she hollered.

Reed stripped the gun from her trembling hand as Klein took the clean towel Bailey gave him, kneeled, and pressed it against the blood seeping from her right shoulder.

“We’re trying to help you, you pompous witch,” Bailey snapped.

“Help me! He shot me,” she screamed, pointing at Reed. “Security!”

Other people were milling around, not seeming to know what to do, looking around for the security as well.

“You’ll find your security has been detained.” Reed gave her grandmother a smirky grin.

“What? How dare you!” Mimi screamed louder still.

Bailey came toward Kylee and her grandfather with another clean towel. Her grandpa rolled off her and onto the ground, lying on his back as Bailey put pressure on the wound and spoke into her mic. “We’ve got two wounded. Neither life threatening.”

“Kylee!” The yell came from the entryway.

Kylee looked, and there he was. Chandler ran for her, and the crowd parted to let him through. She struggled to her knees—blast this tight dress.

Chandler reached her, his blue eyes full of concern and love for her. He easily lifted her off the ground and against his chest. She was safe and she was loved and she was more than enough. She knew all of that from the strength he infused into her.

“You’re not hurt?” he asked urgently.

“No.” She shook her head.

He bent and captured her mouth with his, kissing her deeply and thoroughly and leaving her no doubt that he was enraptured by her and that he loved her.

“No!” Mimi was screaming. “You can’t have her! I forbid her to love a Delta!”

Chandler pulled back slightly and met Kylee’s gaze. His blue eyes captivated her. “Do you?” he asked. His voice got lower and there was a vulnerability in his gaze that made her love him even more. He loved her, and he understood her self-doubts, and he would build her up and strengthen her any time she needed it. “Love a Delta?”

“Oh, Chandler.” She cupped his jaw with her free hand, her right still clutching the small purse that held the valuable hair. “I love you more than anyone in this entire world. I want you to be my world.”

Chandler grinned and then he was kissing her again.
