“I’ve never considered you a villain, but…”

“Alejandro, are you sure you don’t have a rich relative? Maybe you were adopted and your actual parents are wealthy jet setters?”

“Mi madre would slap the stupid out of me if I said maybe. If I have to hear how I’m just like my father one more time…”

“Now, are you going to tell me what’s really on your mind?”

“I don’t know—”

“Speak.”

I cursed under my breath. “I’m hoping a specific gentleman shows up tonight.”

“Rabid Squirrel?”

“How are chipmunk cheeks a power?”

“Mystery Man?”

“His name is Stewart. He’s hardly a mystery.”

“The Great—“

“Does the phrase, ‘is it in yet’ sound great?”

Scarlet whistled before taking another drink. While the other staff might give me grief, she never judged me on my extracurricular activities. She had garnered quite a reputation in her younger years. But as she got older, she questioned if her trysts were because they were into her or because her voice held the ability to sway men. Thankfully, she found a telepath who required no words to communicate.

“What’s special about this one?”

I pressed against the bar, gesturing for her to lean closer. “I think he might be a gentleman.”

She raised an eyebrow. “Confirmed?”

I nodded. “Strong supporting evidence.”

“Well, I’ll be damned.” She tipped back the drink, polishing off the last of the gin.

“Hero in the street…”

“Villain in the sheets.” She bumped fists with me. “I hope you’re right, Alejandro. Now stop breaking glasses, or you’ll never afford to buy the club.”

She had barely vanished into the crowd when somebody coughed behind me. I spun about to see EO’s face through a portal separating me from the liquor on the shelves. I was about to ask how long he’d been standing.

“A villain in the sheets, huh?”

Being Mexican meant I could rely on genetics to hide a slight blush. This was anything but slight. I could weave between the admirations of patrons all night, but this man overhears a one-liner between me and the boss lady, and suddenly I felt like a teenager again.

“About that…”

He stepped to the side and vanished from sight. I was about to curse when he cleared his throat from the other side of the bar. I would have to get used to a man who could move in ways that defied the laws of nature. By the time I breathed a sigh of relief, he was pulling out a chair and taking his seat.

“Don’t worry,” he laughed, “I am.”

I raised an eyebrow, unsure of what he meant. The funny expression on his face had me blushing again. Oh, great. He was going to think I was a giddy child, unable to control the rush of blood to his face. It didn’t get better when he reached into a portal and pulled out a bouquet of white roses.

“Too much? Are you a flower guy? White seemed appropriate. You know, with you being all pure and stuff.”

“You’re nervous.” Did I just say that out loud? How long had it been since a guy chased me? You’d think this was the first time I ever considered a second date with a man. “I mean, you literally saved half a dozen people from plummeting to their deaths, and you’re rambling withme?”
