I’d have agreed at the start. But by the third round of dancing, he had started keeping up. There might be hope for his strip teases. The music ended and the older gentleman stepped up behind Theo.

“We’ll make a country boy out of you yet.”

“I don’t know about that,” Theo confessed.

“Same time next week?”

I raised an eyebrow at Theo. Chad would be delighted to know I remembered his rule book. You never ended a date before scheduling the next date. Rule #7, I think?

“What do you say? Next week?”

I’m pretty sure Theo bit back a smile. “It’s a date.”

“We’ll be here,” I told the man.

“Does this deserve a yeehaw?” asked Theo.

“Is he serious?”

“City boys, am I right” I laughed. The older man patted us both on the shoulder before leaving.

“So I shouldn’t ask about bull riding later?”

We might have a second date, but it appeared this one was far from over.

The portal transportedme from my living room to the HideOut. It might be abusing Theo’s abilities, but I couldn’t help but make an entrance and show off for the guys. Every day they rolled their eyes at my stories, convinced I over-exaggerated my evening trysts. But as I stepped through, hands on my hips, I coughed, clearing my throat.

“Wait! Where’d you—”

I waved my hand at Griffin, silencing him. “Perks of dating a teleporter.” The moment I said it, Bernard’s furry lip turned upward. I’d have to thank him for his sagely advice when we had a quiet moment. Right now, I wanted to show off for these goons.

Another portal opened up to my side and EO’s upper body leaned out. “Remember the teasing last night?” he whispered the words. In the next sentence, however, he made sure everybody in the coffee shop heard him. “Have a great day at school, kiddo.” He kissed me on the cheek and vanished.

“I will have my revenge,” I grumbled.

“Well, he’s cute.” Our resident matchmaker turned barista already had my coffee in hand. He thrust the cup in my direction while his free hand felt around the air, looking for the portal. “Does he have a brother? A dad? I’d let him call me daddy.”

Well, this entrance had gone sideways quickly. “Go call your husband and take a cold shower.”

“Admiring is not touching. I have permission to gawk.”

“He is cute,” Xander added. “I’d let him call me daddy.”

“He could call me whatever he wanted,” Griffin said.

We all turned to Bernard, waiting for him to add the last zinger before we moved on to our usual morning ritual. As he sipped his coffee, he watched each of us. With a guffaw, he set it down. “He’s not calling anybody daddy.”

“Really? That’s it?” Xander said. “You’re losing your—“

“Papi, on the other hand…”

The burly man shot me a smile. Nobody dared call Bernard a daddy bear except me. It’s how I convinced myself I was his favorite. Either that or I had worn him to where he gave up hope of us having a normal relationship. I thought about that furry puppy pile in my bed.

“I know that look,” Xander started.

“Yup. He’s having sex thoughts,” Griffin finished. “We could be here a while.”
