“No, Stella.”

“I wished him away. I wished because I didn’t know how to handle things. I never know how to handle things.”

“You were scared. This is not your fault.” I kiss her softly on the lips, “My beautiful Stella. I love you so much. Don’t leave me, don’t ever leave me. I’m not okay without you.”

I laid my head on her leg and she ran her fingers through my hair, “I love you Jamie. Please hold on to that. Never forget how much I loved you.”

I jerked my head up and looked at her, “Don’t you fucking dare say goodbye to me, Stella. I need you here to remind me every day how much you love me.”

Alarms start sounding. People are shouting, “CODE BLUE! CODE BLUE!”

“No STELLA! FOREVER AND ALWAYS YOU PROMISED! STELLA!”

A man pulls my arm and tells me to go to the waiting room once again.

Alexander stares at me as if he’s unsure what to do as I fall to the ground, sobbing.

I’ve never seen my brother look more worried, and he should be. I can’t fucking be here without her. My world is over. All I see is darkness. All I feel is pain. My chest hurts. I feel like I’m breaking in two.

I sobbed, “Stella. Stella.”

Scarlet sat on the floor next to me and pulled me into her arms once again. “Jamie, I’m so sorry. We’re going to get through this together.”

“I can’t get through this. I don’t want to get through this without her.”

The most brilliant star in my sky was disappearing. I didn’t know how to go on without her.

CHAPTER 21

“Iforgot to call Paul.”

“It’s okay. I can call him,” Alexander said.

“No. I’ll do it. It should be me,” I pulled my phone out and dialed.

“Hi Jamie.”

“I don’t know how to say this, Paul.”

“Just say it. Are you okay?”

I cleared my throat. “I killed her. I’m so sorry.”

“What are you talking about?” with a brief panic in his voice.

“I got her pregnant. Her fallopian tube burst and she didn’t make it. She’s dead. It’s my fault. I’m sorry.”

Paul was stunned, “She’s dead?”

Sobbing, “I think so.”

“Okay, so she might live?” with a little relief in his voice.

“I don’t think so.”

“I’m on my way, and Jamie, this is not your fault.”
