Jack withdrew his hand and nodded. “I’ve been in the closet for so long, hiding who I really am, that it’s not easy talking about it.”

“Oh, hon.” McKenna scooted out of her chair and came around the table, throwing her arms around Jack. “I’m sorry I didn’t know. I would have supported you. I still support you. You’re my brother, and I love you.”

“Love you, too, brat.” He kissed her cheek and heard a low growl. “I think Taylor is jealous.”

She laughed and whispered, “Yeah, that might be true, but I’m not going to let him stop me from hugging you.”

Jack patted her arm. “Have a seat, Mickie. Let’s keep the potential violence to a minimum.”

With a roll of her eyes, she went back to her side of the table. “So tell me how your career is going. I know you just got off that tour, but what are your next plans?”

“I have a concert in less than five weeks.”

“God, do you ever rest? I worry about you, Jack. I know you have adoring, crazy fans, but do you always have to work so hard?”

Jack and McKenna looked at the next table when Mendez got out from the booth. A gaggle of girls had been coming near their table, but Mendez blocked their path.

McKenna turned to look at him. “Is it always like this?”

“Yep.” Jack sighed. “I love my fans, but sometimes I wish they practiced boundaries.” Jack got up and tapped Mendez on the shoulder. “They’re teenagers. Let them through.”

“Oh my god, you’re Jack Dane!” The girl couldn’t be older than fourteen or fifteen. She had long brunette hair and big, bright green eyes. “Please, please, please can I have your autograph?”

The three other girls squealed and jumped in place. They looked as if they’d pass out at any second. Jack looked over his shoulder to see McKenna arching a brow. He winked at her and turned back to the girls.

“Got anything you want me to sign?” Jack asked.

The girl pulled out his latest CD from her purse. “I know CDs are becoming obsolete, but my car is old, and I can’t connect my phone to it.”

Jack took out the sleeve. The girl handed him a marker. “What’s your name, sweetheart?”

She sighed and swooned. Now it was Jack who arched a brow. He sure as shit hoped he didn’t have to catch her as she fainted. “Ashley.”

With a nod, Jack signed the front of the sleeve then handed it back to her, along with the marker.

“Me next!” said a blonde who looked around the same age.

Jack spent the next ten minutes signing things for them and snapping pictures with the girls. One of them jumped forward and kissed him on the cheek. Jack chuckled and quickly backed away. “You ladies enjoy the rest of your day.”

They erupted in more squeals that hurt Jack’s ears. Mendez sat, and so did Taylor. Jack hadn’t even seen the other guy get up. He thought Mendez would be a growly sourpuss, but he looked amused. Jack guessed teenage girls weren’t even a threat on the guy’s radar because they were minors. And Mendez would be right.

“Jack, please sign my parking ticket,” McKenna teased then imitated a squeal.

“Shut up, brat.” He grinned. “At least those are the nice ones. Sometimes my security detail has to rip women off me.”

He wasn’t bragging. That was some scary shit when someone jumped on him. Jack always panicked, worried he would be pulled into the crowd and mauled. It had happened once during a concert, and security had to rush him backstage.

He loved what he did, but there were times when people took things too far.

“If Mendez didn’t tell you, they only get possessive around other alpha males,” McKenna said. “Those teenagers aren’t a threat.”

“So why did Taylor growl when you hugged me?”

“He knows you’re family, but you’re still an alpha male.”

Jack had never thought of himself that way. Maybe a beta, possibly.

“You have an amazing voice, deep, penetrating, and you’re handsome as hell.” McKenna winked. “Women can’t help themselves.” She looked over at the table where the girls were watching them and sighing. “Apparently teenagers can’t either.”
