Huck started barking orders. Within ten minutes Huck had secured another suite for Jack. The cops showed up, and the day was long and exhausting by the time the dust settled.

When they were finally alone, Jack turned to Mendez. “I think I need another vacation.”

Mendez folded Jack in his arms. Damn, that felt good. Jack had wanted to curl up to his mate the entire day, but they had to take care of the James situation first.

Now the last of Jack’s energy faded.

“I’m sorry he got the jump on me. I didn’t even suspect him. My damn guard was down.”

Jack rested his head against his mate’s shoulder. “No one suspected him. It wasn’t your fault.”

Mendez squeezed him tighter. “I love you, Jack Dane.”

Warmth and happiness flooded Jack. “I love you, too, Mendez Grant.”

“Hell of a day, huh?” Mendez pulled back and smiled at him. “You came out, and then your stalker tried to kill you.”

“I don’t know if that was his intention.” Jack shivered as he thought of the crazed look in James’s eyes. “He was delusional. He really believed we were meant to be together.”

A growl rumbled in Mendez’s chest. “I want to bring him back to life so I can kill him all over again.”

“For now, all I want is to go back to bed.” Jack grabbed Mendez’s hand and led him to the bedroom. He was too tired for anything other than sleep. And he found it in Mendez’s arms.

Chapter Twelve

“They goddamn love you,” Huck said with a chuckle. “Of course you got your assholes, but the support for you is pouring in. You’re the number one trend on social media. I can’t tell you which people are talking about more, you coming out or that a crazed fan/security personnel tried to kill you.”

“So glad my pain is your pleasure.” Jack kicked his bare feet up on the coffee table. After the attack, Jack and Mendez had flown home. He’d cancelled any engagements he had for the next three months, and surprisingly, Huck hadn’t thrown a hissy fit.

Especially when Jack donated two million dollars toward LGBTQIA causes. He also donated another two million toward cancer research. Just because Mendez had bound their souls and saved Jack from that fate, others weren’t that lucky, and Jack wanted to do what he could to help them.

“As soon as you come off your hiatus, I have tons of interviews lined up. Your goddamn albums are selling like it’s a fire sale.”

Jack hadn’t done it for sales. He couldn’t deny who he was any longer. Not when he loved Mendez so much. It wasn’t right keeping his mate in the dark like he was a dirty secret. The tabloids had picked up that Mendez was his partner—which Huck probably leaked—but Jack didn’t care who knew.

He hadn’t heard from Rachael, but Jack wasn’t going to sweat it. She was beautiful enough to find another rich guy to support her lifestyle. Hopefully she found someone that would make her happy the way Jack never could.

“Right now all I’m thinking about is my downtime with Mendez.”

Huck grew quiet for a second. “I never would have suspected you two. I’m happy for the both of you. Any wedding bells in your future?”

Jack chuckled. “So you can spin that to your advantage?”

“I’m offended,” Huck said. “I may not act like it a lot of times, but I do care for you, boy. I’m just hoping to be your best man.”

“Slow the ride, Huck.” Jack and Mendez hadn’t talked about marriage. They were already mated, but maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make it official. His mother had already called and chewed him a new ass for having to hear about him being gay on the television. Then she’d told him that she loved him no matter what and had already suspected something because of the way Jack and Mendez had looked at each other when they were there.

McKenna called him and squealed her happiness, wishing she could travel to be with him, but she was too close to her due date. They’d told people that some women didn’t show until their last trimester, and the townsfolk bought it. But Jack planned on flying home when she gave birth so he could meet his niece or nephew. Taylor had taken the phone from here and congratulated Jack and Mendez on their mating.

When he wasn’t ready to take someone’s head off over McKenna, he was a real nice guy.

“Okay, I’ll let you have your time with your boo.”

Jack choked on a laugh. “You did not just say that.”

“I’ll talk to you later. You two have fun.” Huck hung up.

Mendez came around the couch and spread out over Jack’s lap. Jack cupped his jaw, smiling down at him. “Yes, I’m officially done with business for the next few months.”
