“Do something, dammit,” she snapped. The pressure was painful as her fiery body begged for relief.

Raine sat back on his knees, stroking his massive cock. “You are mine, body and soul. My mate. Say it.”

Dannika followed the lazy slide of his hand over his shaft. He didn’t rush. She licked the saliva forming in her mouth. She pictured sucking on him deeply, his shaft penetrating deep into her throat. Heat scorched her body, intensified without Raine’s touch. A fiery hell that he controlled.

“I’m yours. Now and forever.” She didn’t want a world that didn’t include Raine.

He was on her in an instant. His mouth fastened to hers as the head of his cock pressed against her slick entrance. “This is our time. Our eternity.”

“Yes,” she panted, clutching his shoulders.

She gasped as he thrust into her. She expected him to go slow, to build the crescendo. He didn’t. His deep strokes continued as he buried himself deeper and deeper into her body. Burning need overshadowed the sting of pain. She met his thrusts, urging him to push harder, deeper, each stroke claiming a piece of her soul.

She felt her core tighten, the small muscles circling Raine strengthening their hold before letting go.

Dannika shouted his name as the orgasm ripped through her like a firestorm. Tiny sparks exploded behind her eyes as she clung to him.

Raine moaned as his orgasm joined hers.

They lay in each other’s arms as their breathing returned to normal. Raine made a lazy pattern on her back, strange symbols that felt beautiful and intimate. She wished they could stay there forever, locked in each other’s embrace, hidden from the world.

“How is Sammy?” she asked.

Raine ran his fingers over her arm. “He is traumatized and won’t come near the entrance to the sanctuary, but he’s healing. He knows you saved him, and that Killian is dead and can no longer control you.”

She splayed her fingers over his chest. “It’s amazing how forgiving children can be. I don’t deserve his trust, but I’ll do everything I can to regain it.”

Raine kissed her forehead. “I know you will.”

“Do you know where the reapers went? I’m not comfortable leaving them at the salvage yard. It’s too close to the shelter.”

He waved his hand in the air. Black script formed and dissolved. “I sent a few clan members to check on the reapers’ whereabouts before we left the portal.”

“Did they find the reapers?”

“Julius abandoned the salvage yard. We don’t know where they went. The cave they held me captive in is also empty, but there are caverns all over the mountains. There are plenty of places for them to hide.”

She looked up at him. “What about the demon? Halak disappeared when I closed the portal, but there are no guarantees he returned to the demon realm.”

“Dayton is looking. So far, he can’t find any evidence that Halak remained in the human world. I don’t believe a demon would have the restraint to avoid killing humans. I won’t comment on how disconcerting it is that you know the demon’s name.”

She laughed. “Trust me, conversing with Halak wasn’t pleasurable. It was informative, though. He knew about the Priestess, and they ordered him not to kill me. Someone in the demon realm is pulling his strings. I don’t want to find out who that is.”

“Agreed,” Raine said.

Dannika made tiny circles on Raine’s skin. “Thank you for talking to me back in the cave. You were busy fighting Julius, so I’m sure it was difficult to create a doppelgänger.”

He touched her chin. “No matter what I’m doing, you are always my first priority.”

“I lost it back there. I had the urge to kill the demon. To drink his blood. It’s pretty horrifying. I just wanted you to know.”

Raine smiled. “I appreciate the confession, but there’s no need. Every shadow has urges. Some go to the brink of killing a human before they overcome them. Our strength is accepting our weaknesses and realizing we can recover from a setback. That’s what it means to be part of a clan. To be a family.”

His lips settled on hers. She accepted the commitment, the taste of love on his lips.

“I guess my brother got what he wanted. He’s the new leader of the reaper clan,” Dannika said.

“We will find him, but not today. We are getting mated.”
