I still haven’t found the words to ask Hunter about her, and I won’t tonight because he’s already getting to his feet.
“I’ll see you later,” he says and walks off.
Jax holds me tighter and kisses my neck softly as I watch Hunter walk into the house. “He’s gonna figure it out. He always does.”
I lay my arms over his and burrow even deeper into his arms.
“Maybe I should postpone the restart of my tour for a couple of more days,” I say. “He might need someone to talk to.”
I still have ten gigs left to play on the original roster and I planned ten more besides to make up for the ones I’ve now missed. Jax and I are leaving tomorrow. That date has been set for weeks.
“If that’s what you want,” he says and kisses my neck again. “But I doubt he’ll wanna be the cause of you missing any more of your tour.”
“You’re probably right,” I say.
“But this is why I love you, well, one of the reasons,” he says awkwardly and clears his throat. “Because you always think of everyone else’s happiness first.”
He’s never been good at talking about his feelings but when he does, it never fails to make me feel all the butterflies and all the sparkles of getting kissed for the first time.
“But I think we should go tomorrow,” he adds. “Else your fans might come here to storm down the gates.”
He’s not wrong, my fans have been getting louder and louder about wanting to see me perform.
“Yeah, let’s just do it,” I say and lean my head back to look into his eyes. “We’ve waited long enough.”
He kisses me, sparking yet more notes of yet more songs that are still waiting for me to write them. But it will be the song of our love and our life together that will be my greatest work of all. And it starts tomorrow morning.
But really, it started years ago, in a clearing covered with soft grass much like this one when I first found the courage to speak to him. It started with our first kiss, our first touch, our first awkward, whispered I love you.
And it will never be finished. Because it will never end.
