“I’m not a virgin anymore,” she mumbled, so relaxed and content she might just go to sleep right there on the sun-warmed deck.

“No, but I’ve been hammering your body when I should be taking it easy on you.”

He drew back and pulled away from her before turning her to face him in the shallow water. Her legs trembled with the effort of standing after such delightful sex therapy, and she glared a little as she looked up at him.

“I was happy to never move again.”

He smiled. “But then you wouldn’t have time to get ready for our date tonight.”

Chapter Eleven

Yasmine turned off the shower and stepped out to dry herself. Pulling on a bathrobe, she got busy drying her hair with the hairdryer. She’d already picked out a light blue dress that would showcase her tan. She’d wear it with her hair upswept while leaving some tendrils free.

She was finishing putting her hair up into a twisted chignon when movement caught her eye. Her husband appeared behind her, his eyes gleaming. “I have a present for you.”

She slid the last clip into her hair. “You do?”

He bent and kissed her bared nape. “Mmhm.” Then lifting his hands he presented her with a stunning diamond choker that featured a pendent in the shape of a star. It glittered under the bathroom lights, enchanting her, and she stood wordlessly as he slipped it on and clasped it behind her neck.

“I love it,” she breathed. “It will look perfect with my dress.”

“It comes with matching stud earrings,” he said with a pleased smile. “Once you’re dressed you can put them on too.”

Ten minutes later she slid in her earrings and stepped back to look at her reflection in the mirror.Perfect.The jewelry really was a stunning foil for her dress and upswept hair. Her husband had outstanding if expensive taste.

Jamal returned to the bathroom and stood behind her once again, his gaze admiring. “How did I get so lucky?”

“I should be the one saying that,” she said, staring past the reflection of her glittery jewelry to the man who’d bought them for her. Even in her heels he towered over her, yet he made her feel safe, cherished.

“Well here’s a little incentive.” He pressed a gold-plated credit card into her hand. “I want you to have every advantage of being my wife. The funds are for you, buy whatever you want or need.”

She stared at the card like it was a snake. “I don’t need your money.”

He smirked. “Said no woman ever.” He kissed her nape. “Take it, angel. Enjoy it. Spend up big. The funds are unlimited. It will give me pleasure seeing your pleasure.”

What was it about the card that made her insides twist with dread? Any other woman would be throwing their arms around their husband and squealing with joy.

She managed to smile. “You see that every time you take me to bed.”

He chuckled. “True. But pleasure comes in many forms.”

She opened up her clutch purse and stuck the card inside. “Thank you. You spoil me too much. I really am lucky.”

He didn’t seem to notice how hollow her words sounded.

“Then let’s hope that same luck holds out for us tonight.” Before she had a chance to get him to expand on where they were going, he proffered his arm. “If you’re ready, angel, we’ll go.”

It’d been wonderful having her husband all to herself, but it was almost as exciting to step inside a casino crowded with people, wealth fairly screaming from the building and its patrons. Slot machines tinkled and buzzed, and gamblers crowded around gaming tables with excited shouts and groans.

She glanced at Jamal. He wore a white suit and a black dress shirt, the color highlighting his tan as much as her clingy, light blue dress showcased hers. She touched her glittery choker. She’d never been huge on precious jewels but having his gift on her body made her feel on top of the world, like nothing could ever drag them apart.

They really were newlyweds. Happy and devoted to one another.

That she’d worried he’d want to take his revenge out on her seemed so silly now. He wasn’t that type of guy. He’d really meant it when he said he never regretted a decision once he’d made one.

She only hoped his one future regret wasn’t that he’d married her.
